Importing Trados Style .Txt Memory Files and Applying Them As Leverages in Sdlinsight

How to Import Trados style .txt translation memory files and applying as a leverage in SDLinsight.

Importing Trados style .txt memory files and applying them as leverages in SDLinsight .

Step 1:

To be able to import Trados style text file you will first need to import the Trados txt file into SDLX Maintain and export the SDLX TM as a Delimited txt file.

Step 2:

The delimited text file exported from SDLX Maintain is then imported into SDLinsight and applied as a leverage using the leverage from glossary / delimited txt file option.

alternatively

–If you are able to export the Trados translation memory to a Multi Term style glossary file from Trados or other tool the exported Multi Term file can then be imported directly into SDLinsight and applied as a leverage.

- This can be done by selecting the option to leverage from a glossary and checking the Multi Term option.

In SDLX Maintain

Importing Trados .TXT files into SDLX Maintain

Open SDL Maintain.

Go to TM\New and then create a New Translation Memory.

Go to TM\Import\Trados

The Import Wizard dialog box appears – on the first dialog box select your Trados .TXT File(s).

Click on Next.

The Languages & Encodings dialog box appears – please select the Source and Target Language. If you want to analyze the Trados file for the available languages – Click on the Analyze import for available languages.

Click on Next.

Use General Options to specify how to deal with imported source segments if they are identical to segments, which already exist in the TM (Duplicates).

Then Click on FINISH. Your Transit TM will now be imported into SDLX.

Once the Import is complete the following dialog will appear:

Check both languages for Indexing and then Click on OK.

Once both languages have been Indexed – the Language selection box will appear:

Click on OK. Now your Imported TM will appear in the SDL Maintain Window.

Exporting your TM as a Delimited .TXT file

  1. 1. Open your TM in SDL Maintain.
  2. 2. Go to TM\Export\Delimited File


3.The Export Wizard dialog box appears – Use Languages to specify which source and target languages will be exported. Select the source language and the target language from the dropdown lists.

Click on Next.

4.The Export Wizard – Filter Conditions Dialog appears:


If you want to set any Filters Conditions you can do this here (please refer to the SDLX Help file for more information on the Filter Conditions Dialog box)

Click on Next.

5.The Export Wizard – Format Options Dialog appears:


Use the Use Format Options to define the structure of the Exported delimited file.

Click on Next.

  1. The Export Wizard – Field Order Dialog appears:


Use Field Order dialog to specify the fields that should be exported into the Delimited file.

Select the Fields for Export one at a time from the ‘Available’ section, by using the arrows move the fields to the ‘Selected’ section.

Once you are happy with the selected fields - Click on Next.


7.The Export Wizard – Destination Translation Memory Dialog appears:

Click on the Browse button to specify the destination of your Exported TMX file.

Click on ‘Finish’ to begin the Export Process.

8.At the bottom of your TM window your Export results will be displayed:
