ACADEMIC DECATHLON
Sample Letter for Parents
February 16, 2010
Dear Parents:
The day for the Fourteenth Annual Diocese of San Diego Academic Decathlon is almost here. This year’s decathlon, with eighteen schools participating, should prove to be just as challenging and exciting as the past thirteen years. The decathlon will take place on Saturday, March 6, on the campus of Mater Dei Catholic High School in Chula Vista.
The tentative schedule for the day is as follows:
7:30 a.m. Arrival of Teams
8:00 a.m. Celebration of the Eucharist (Gymnasium)
8:50 a.m. Opening Ceremony (Gymnasium)
9:25 a.m. Team Logic Quiz (closed event)
10:25 a.m. Break
10:45 a.m. Individual Tests (closed event)
11:45 a.m. Lunch
12:40 p.m. Super Quiz (Gymnasium)
2:30 p.m. Awards Ceremony (Gymnasium)
A most cordial invitation is extended to you, as parents, to attend the afternoon events beginning with the Super Quiz. Unfortunately, all the morning events, except for the Mass and opening ceremony are closed to the general public.
If you do plan on attending the Super Quiz it is imperative that there be no clapping or noise during the reading of the questions, the displaying of answers, and the awarding of points. The audience is to remain silent during this event.
Team members, coaches (2), and principal will receive a complimentary lunch of a subway sandwich, chips, cookie, and beverage. Other guests should bring a sack lunch or plan on purchasing lunch from the Mater Dei snack bar. Fast food establishments are available within one mile of the school on Eastlake Parkway (not within walking distance).
A reminder to our parents of team members, student competitors are to wear their “dress” school uniforms on the day of the competition. Directions to Mater Dei Catholic High School are available from your school’s head coach.
As coach of the (St. Rose of Lima School Academic Decathlon Team), I look forward to your presence on Saturday, March 6, as we cheer the (Lancers) on to victory.
Sincerely
