JOB DESCRIPTION – TEACHING ASSISTANT –
LANERCOST CE PRIMARY SCHOOL
£17419-£17772 per annum pro rata
Purpose of Post
1 To contribute to a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed within the Nursery/Reception Class
2 To support learning and development of all children and to contribute to observations and the next steps of their learning;
3 To give support to other personnel within the Class;
4 To implement the daily routine in the Nursery/Reception Class
5 To undertake day to day nursery/reception duties to ensure high standards of care, cleanliness and hygiene are maintained

Foundation Stage teacher and Head teacher
Hours of Work
Monday to Thursday 3 hours per morning
Duties and Responsibilities
1 To contribute to a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children in conjunction with other staff;
2 To contribute to records of learning and development for all children through Tapestry online learning journal.
3 Work alongside parents/carers of special needs children to provide full integration in the Setting;
4 Support all staff as part of an effective team;
5 Liaise with and support parents/carers and other family members;
6 To attend out of working hours activities, e.g. training, staff meetings as and when appropriate,
7 To be flexible within working practices of the school. Be prepared to help where needed e.g. preparation of classroom/outdoor teaching materials and equipment, trips and assisting with displays
8 Work alongside the head teacher and Foundation teacher to ensure that the philosophy and ethos of high quality Early Years teaching is provided
9 Adhere to the schools policies and procedures including those related to Safeguarding, recording of accidents and equal opportunities
10 To be constantly aware of the needs of children;
11 To respect the confidentiality of information received;
12 Specific Child Care Tasks:
· The preparation and completion of activities to suit the child's stage of development;
· To work with individuals and groups to support expectations of acceptable personal and social behaviour and help to make these part of the learning experience
13 To be aware of the high profile of the school and to uphold its standards at all times.
Person Specification:
Essential / DesirableSkills, aptitude, knowledge and experience
· Enthusiasm for working with young children
· Previous experience of caring for, or working with nursery and reception children
· An interest in the care, learning and development of young children
· A commitment to the provision of high quality childcare
· A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities
· Knowledge and understanding about the developmental and learning needs of young children, particularly in relation to the Early Years Curriculum
· Supporting and extending children’s development through a stimulating and challenging environment both inside and out
· Understanding of learning through play and how to engage with children in a meaningful way
· Awareness of child protection issues / · Training in intervention programmes

Qualifications
· Completion of a recognised Level 3 Childcare qualification, e.g. NVQ 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development
· GCSE Grade C English and Maths
· A positive approach to gaining further qualifications
· Some understanding of the importance of Health & Safety and Food Hygiene in the workplace
· DBS – Enhanced disclosure / · Health & Safety certificate
· First Aid certificate
· Completion of other relevant courses e.g. safeguarding
This post requires a DBS check as there may be periods of unsupervised access to children. An Enhanced DBS and satisfactory references would be obtained prior to commencement of employment.
