SAMPLE EMAIL FOR ADVISEES

Dear Advisees:

Registration is coming up soon. Please make an appointment with me 2-3 days before your registration date. In order to register you must meet with me to obtain your PIN. Make your appointment at least 24-48 hours in advance. My sign-up process is ______.

These are the steps you need to take to prepare for your advising appointment:

  1. Your registration date (enrollment appointment) can be found in PASS in your Student Center. It is located on the right side of the page. Click on the details link, to get the exact time that you can register. You will want to register as close to that time as possible to ensure you get into the classes you want.
  1. Pick up your folder in GE Office, 153 Ottensman, and bring to appointment. Do this several days before your appointment. You will have to fill out a form to request your folder.
  1. Prepare a proposed schedule as much as possible using the following tools and suggestions:

  • General Engineering folder

  • Academic Requirement Report found in the drop down box on the left side of your Student Center. This report shows you what you have taken and what needs to still be taken. You can also upload it as a PDF.
  • Schedule Builder/My Planner links are found on the left side of your Student Center.
  • Schedule Builder: Used to build a schedule for the next semester
  • My Planner: Used to plan out future semesters. Since many major classes are offered on a rotating schedule this is useful in order to plan the most efficient path to graduation.
  • Know your co/pre-requisites (catalog)
  • Pick alternate classes
  • Use the ITS Knowledge Base to learn how to use these tools
  • Use the EMS Advising Webpage that has helpful links to many of the registration tools.
  1. EMAIL me a copy of your schedule built through Schedule Builder to me before our appointment.
  1. PRINT out the schedulesto bring to your appointment. I suggest you pick 2-3 different schedules because classes may fill before your enrollment appointment.
  1. Make sure you know your CORE GPA before coming to your appointment. Use the EMS Advising Webpage to get the CORE GPA calculator.
  1. After you have met with me and I have given you your PIN, you can then send your schedule from Schedule Builder to your shopping cart. Do not do this until after you have met with me.
  1. You will need to release all HOLDS located on the right hand side of your Student Center before registering. Don’t wait until the last minute to check this. This includes:
  2. Financial Hold (Agreement to pay your bill)
  3. Marital Property Hold
  4. Fees, tickets, or tuition balances must be paid
  1. The link to enter your PIN is on the left hand side of your Student Center.
  1. For assistants on how to use Schedule Builder or any other tools,
  2. Contact the EMS Advising Office for an appointment.
  3. Use the ITS Knowledge Base to learn how to use these tools.

Remember: You are responsible for your academic planning and understanding your graduation requirements. If you procrastinate, you may not get into the classes you need or want which could delay your graduation. I am here to assist and guide you, but you need to be prepared.
