Children & Family Mental Health Executive Director

Delaware Guidance Services (DGS) for Children and Youth, Inc., headquartered in Wilmington, DE, is seeking a qualified full-time Executive Director. DGS is a highly regarded private not-for-profit agency providing a wide range of behavioral health services to Delaware children, youth and families. DGS employs 200 professional and support staff and operates from five primary locations throughout the state.

The Executive Director has overall responsibility for DGS’s sustained stability and growth in a changing behavioral health care and non-profit environment. DGS is looking for an innovative and experienced leader who can develop a bold vision and strong strategic direction for the agency and inspire and lead a team of behavioral health professionals and administrative staff. The Executive Director is responsible for the professional and financial health of the agency, including maintaining accreditation and licensure, sustaining and expanding existing programs and developing new funding sources, programs and partnerships. The Executive Director is expected to be highly visible in the community and foster relationships critical to DGS’s success.

The Executive Director reports to a volunteer Board of Directors and must be able to work collaboratively with them to establish and oversee the agency’s strategic plan.

DGS seeks candidates with:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience and demonstrated success managing a non-profit (or related for-profit) organization, agency, practice group, etc., preferably in behavioral health or a related field
  • Graduate level degree from an accredited college or university in Administration or Management (e.g., Social Service Administration, Hospital Administration, Business Administration or Management, Mental Health Administration, Public Administration), a Human Services discipline (e.g., Social Work, Counseling, Child Development, Medicine, Psychology), or at least 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with government and private funding sources
  • Strong business sense and deep community ties or the proven ability to establish them
  • Ability to inspire confidence and lead a diverse staff of health care and administrative professionals and staff
  • Government advocacy and program management experience preferred
