SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT

2017-2018

Salyers Elementary, and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title 1, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

School Responsibilities

Salyers Elementary will:

  1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in asupportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:
  • provide high-quality curriculum and instruction based on the district scope and sequence and the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills)
  • provide a supportive and effective learning environment through the integration of the CHAMPS (Conversation Help Activity Movement Participation Success) and TLAC (Teach Like AChampion) expectations
  1. Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual’s achievement.

Specifically, those conferences will be held: October 9, 8:00-4:00

Curriculum meetings/academic nights will be held: two evenings per semester

  1. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.

Specifically, the school will provide access to reports as follows:

  • A progress report in the middle of each nine week period, grades 1-5
  • A progress report every 12 weeks for Pre K
  • A report card at the end of each nine week period, grades K-5
  1. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:
  • Before and after school
  • At a scheduled time during the teacher’s planning period
  1. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows:
  • Volunteer opportunities during the many scheduled “extra” school events/PTO events
  • Observations as scheduled and accompanied by an administrator

Parent Responsibilities

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

  • Getting our children to school daily and on time
  • Monitoring the amount of television our children watch
  • Volunteering in our child’s classroom and/or for school events.
  • Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school

Student Responsibilities

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards. Specifically, I will:

  • Read at least 20-30 minutes every day outside of school time
  • Give to my parents or the adult who is responsible for my welfare all notices and information received by me from my school every day
