GOALS:

The course has been designed to put more emphasis on the basics of English language. The students should be motivated to improve their ability to interact as well as communicate in English fluently. They are made to improve their understanding of written texts as well as spoken language. Integration of skills has been made the target to achieve the goals. So, all the skills like Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and, of course, Grammar have been made focal points of teaching & learning.

OBJECTIVES:

The students are required:

  1. To read the provided short written texts to enhance their reading ability in reduced accent. To read and learn about life, work, countries, languages and nationalities.
  2. To write & describe about jobs, places, houses, rooms, lanes and give directions of a route/street etc.
  3. To listen carefully from tapes to extract ideas and then communicate.
  4. To speak about things of interests, future plans, likes & dislikes, foods and drinks and so on.
  5. To learn sentence structure, verb to be, possessives, articles, countable &

un- countable nouns, positive & negative sentences, auxiliary verbs, degrees and various forms of tenses.

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Students are expected to attend all classes. There are four hours of class everyday in three sessions: two hours for the course book, one hour for grammar and writing and one hour for listening and speaking.
  • A DN will be awarded for 21 missing classes if there is no acceptable excuse.
  • Students are expected to attend all classes with text & workbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils erasers and files

PARTICIPATION & ASSESSMENT:

  • Participation: Students are required to attend their classes fully prepared to participate in discussion and contribute to pair work, and complete all HW on scheduled time.
  • Conference: Students are required to attend all teacher-student conferences to discuss progress in class to get recommendations for further efforts and actions.
  • Evaluation: There will be a Mid-Term examination(20%), Final examination(30%) and Teacher Evaluation of(20%)consists of two quizzes, HW assignments and class participation. There will be separateListening/Speaking tests for (15%)andGrammar/Writing tests for (15%). At least60% is required to pass the Final examination to get to the next level.

STUDENT'S REQUIRMENTS:

  • Arrive in the classroom on time.
  • Be well prepared for your class by doing HW/Assignments.
  • Pay complete attention to your teacher.
  • Be ready to learn by asking relevant questions.
  • Participate in the classroom activities.
  • Seek help from your teacher when you face any problem.
  • Be polite, humble, courteous and honest to your work.
  • Respect your teachers & your classmates.
  • Be confident of your learning & show your satisfaction.
  • Speak English while you are in the campus.
  • Must bring your books, notebooks, pens, pencils, eraser & sharpener.

JCC Attendance Policy

  1. Student should attend all classes of registered courses.
  2. Attendance will be considered in class participation evaluation.
  3. The student is expected to be in his classroom before the class starts.
  4. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of classes.
  5. The student who shows up 5 minutes after the class starts is considered late.
  6. The student who shows up 15 plus minutes after the class starts is considered absent, even if he is allowed into the classroom.
  7. Two late arrivals are equal to one absence.
  8. A "DN" grade will be given to student who misses 15% or more of his classes.
  9. Once a "DN" is issued, student will not be allowed to enter the classroom.
  10. Special cases and valid excuses (to the satisfaction of the college administration) will be carefully scrutinized. However, the "DN" will not be lifted if the absence rate exceeds 20-25% (This depends on the regulationsof each course).
  11. JCC strictly applies this policy. Students are therefore advised to take this matter seriously from the beginning of the semester.

لائحة الغياب بالكلية

  1. يجب أن يحضر الطالب جميع المحاضرات في المواد التي سجلها.
  2. سيؤخذ الغياب في الاعتبار عند احتساب الدرجات المخصصة للمشاركة.
  3. يجب على الطالب الجلوس في قاعة الدراسة قبل بدء المحاضرة.
  4. يسجل الغياب في بداية المحاضرة.
  5. الطالب الذي يحضر خلال 5-15 دقيقة بعد بداية المحاضرة سيسجل متأخراً.
  6. الطالب الذي يحضر بعد 15 دقيقة من بداية المحاضرة سيسجل غائباً حتى لو سُمِح له بدخول القاعة.
  7. يحتسب التأخر لمرتين كغياب مرة واحدة.
  8. الطالب الذي تصل نسبة غيابه إلى 15% أو أكثر من عدد محاضرات المادة يعطى درجة "محروم" في تلك المادة.
  9. لا يسمح للطالب بحضور المحاضرات فور صدور إشعار الحرمان.
  10. النظر في الأعذار المقدمة من الطلاب والتي ترتضيها إدارة الكلية يتم في أضيق الحدود، علماً أنه لن ينظر في أي عذر إذا تجاوزت نسبة الغياب 20-25% بحسب كل مادة.
  11. إن الكلية جادة في تطبيق هذه اللائحة، ولهذا فإننا نهيب بالطلاب أن يحرصوا على الحضور والانضباط منذ بداية الفصل الدراسي.
