a. Reporting Relationships

Reports to Fundraising and Programmes Director.

B. JOB PURPOSE

The Charity Programmes Assistantsupports the execution of SPCK’s charitable programmes through fundraising, donor relations, project management, research, communications, marketing and administration.This is a full-time postwith scope for continuing professional development.

SPCK’s Charity Programmes include:

  • School Assemblies Website, which supplies free resources for collective worship in schools
  • Prison Fiction Project, which works with other charities to help prisoners improve their reading confidence while thinking about life’s big questions
  • Worldwide Programme which aims to help develop theological publishing in Africa
  • Prayers on the Move, aimed at encouraging people of all faith backgrounds and none to give prayer a go
  • Other projects in development.

C. job objectives

  1. To provide administrative supportfor and assist in the delivery of SPCK’s fundraising and charity programmes.
  2. To help raise awareness of SPCK through digital media, fundraising activities, marketing and events.
  3. To increase personal knowledge and understanding of SPCK’s work and of charity systems and processes.
  4. To carry out research and analysis in order to raise awareness, implement new initiatives and enhance the work of SPCK.
  5. To monitor the progress of SPCK’s charitable programmes.
  6. To meet agreed annual targets.

D. Principal Responsibilities

1. Research and awareness

  • To maintain a detailed understanding of SPCK’s values, work, current projects and funding needs and the broader Christian charity environment within which SPCK operates.
  • To monitor fundraising materials and initiatives from other charities in the media and elsewhere.
  • To obtain or produce relevant materials to further SPCK’s charitable programmes.
  • To research potential sources of funding including statutory bodies,
    grant-making trusts, corporations and individuals.
  • To research possible new projects for SPCK’s charitable programmes.

2. Fundraising, donor relations and partnership development

  • To support the team in maintainingand nurturing SPCK’s existing relationships and building new partnerships in order to maximise income from individuals, trusts, events, major donors and legacy pledgers as follows:
  • To build relationships with and solicit gifts from individual donors, both directly and indirectly through key volunteers, including SPCK’s leadership and trustees.
  • To assist in maintainingrelationships with grant-making trusts.
  • To assist in supplying progress reports to supporters and funders.
  • To assist SPCK’s supportive representatives with help and fundraising advice.
  • To maintain effective gift administration and thanking procedures.
  • To assist the SPCK teamwith event planning and to attend events as a representative of SPCK.

3. Communications and marketing

  • To produce copy and content where appropriate.
  • To create reports as required.
  • To assist in SPCK’s fundraising efforts by researching and presenting appropriate information.
  • To help keep SPCK’s online presence up-to-date and fresh, renewing content where appropriate, including writing blog entries and newsletters.
  • To give presentations on fundraising and charitable programmes to SPCK supporters and other groups as appropriate.
  • To work with the marketing team to create promotional and news videos for publication online.
  • To take part in strategic planning, including attending Fundraising Marketing meetings and assisting in the planning of appeals.

4. Prison Fiction Programme

  • To assist in marketing the Prison Fiction Programmeto potential users to ensure increased take-up of the materials in prisons.
  • To manage orders and monitor stock levels of Prison Fiction books.
  • To obtain and process feedback from users (both those running reading groups and the readers in the groups), track which groups are current,and produce reports for funders.
  • To assist in building relationships with partners and other organisations in the field of prison reform and education through communications, attending events and maintaining the prisons Twitter feed.
  • OR, if a project manager is available, assist them in undertaking these activities.

5. Prayers on the Move

  • To handle online and text orders for prayer booklets and answer any queries relating to orders of Prayers on the Move merchandise.
  • To keep a record of feedback received from social media and via the website.
  • To write or commission Prayers on the Move blogs.
  • To pass on prayer requests to prayer communities.
  • To keep a record of media activity.
  • To assist in planning and delivering Prayers on the Move activities.
  • To help churches to obtain Prayers on the Move resources and assist them in planning Prayers on the Move activities.
  • To maintain Prayers on the Move Twitter Feed and Facebook page.
  • OR, if a project manager is available, assist them in undertaking these activities.

6. Record keeping

  • To create and maintain up-to-date records of progress on fundraising and programmes activities.
  • To create reports for management or fundraising purposes.
  • To maintain records of potential sources of funding.
  • To maintain records of existing relationships including interactions, incoming and outgoing correspondence, applications, approaches and solicitations, responses received and outcomes.
  • To ensure all gifts are recorded and allocated to donor records promptly and accurately, to allow for appropriate reporting, thanking and stewardship.
  • To keep records of feedback from all programmes.
  • To assist with maintaining a record of orders and feedback for the International Study Guidesprogramme.
  • To process all invoices relating to the Fundraising and Programmes Department.

7. General

  • To attend conferences, workshops or training events as required. Some may be residential and therefore require occasional overnight stays.
  • To contribute to meetings and strategic planning.
  • To work within given budgetary guidelines.
  • To conduct all work accurately and consistently in keeping with high professional standards.
  • To provide any other administrative assistance required for the effective running of SPCK’s fundraising and charitable programmes.
  • To provide occasional cover for the SPCK receptionist.

E. Health and Safety

The Society’s Health and Safety Policy is set out in full in the Staff Handbook, which forms part of the terms and conditions of employment.

Managers have responsibility for ensuring as far as reasonably practicable the health, safety and welfare at work of all members of staff and volunteers. Your manager will provide you with such information, instruction, training and supervision as is considered necessary for this purpose.

You have responsibility for your own health and safety at work and for the health and safety of colleagues and visitors to the Society’s premises. You are therefore required to:

a)Work safely and effectively, following procedures and instructions for safe working, using any protective clothing or equipment provided, and meeting any statutory requirements.

b)Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.

c)Immediately report to your manager any incidents or defects that may have led, or may in the future lead, to injury.

d)Co-operate in the investigation of accidents.

e)Make yourself aware of the location of fire alarms and fire extinguishers.

f)Raise any matters of health and safety which affect your work or your working environment with your manager.

F. LOCATION

The job is currently based at SPCK Head Office in London SW1 and occasional travel is also involved.

G. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. You must be ready to work with individuals, organisations and publications of all types of churchmanship and none.
  1. In addition to your contracted hours, you may be required to work paid overtime if necessary to meet the needs of the Society’s work.
  1. You must be willing to take your holiday at times which fit with the requirements of the job.
  1. You may be required to undertake other duties from time to time if in the opinion of your manager the needs of the Society so require.
