MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT (21 hours)
Salary c£35,000per annum pro-rata + pension
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
- To take active control of and responsibility for the Finance and HR team in delivering a quality and cost effective service.
- Working closely with the CEO and Senior Management Team, to support the Trustees in delivering its strategic plan 20:20 vision.
- In conjunction with the outsourced HR consultant, to provide advice and support to the CEO, Officer, staff and Trustees on matters relating to finance and HR.
- As part of the Senior Management Team, provide clear, progressive and motivational leadership across KUSU.
WORK LOCATION
Penrhyn Road Campus in Kingston-upon-Thames, with some attendance at other campuses around Kingston.
HOURS OF WORK
21 hours per week.
REPORTS TO
The Chief Executive Officer.
MAIN DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Production of monthly management accounts.
- Preparation of annual budgets and report on performance against agreed budgets advising of any variance.
- To develop and implement a financial strategy for KUSU.
- Support the development of longer term strategy by providing strategic financial forecasting
- Operating the union's computerised financial accounting system. Overall responsibility for staff and student staff payroll to include annual PAYE returns.
- Submission of quarterly VAT returns.
- Preparation of yearend accounts and annual report with responsibility for arranging annual audit.
- Line management of the Finance & HR Co-ordinator.
- Liaising with key, relevant University staff as required.
- Support Trustees and CEO in funding bids to include block grant submission
- Support budget holders in preparing and monitoring budgets and provide costings for proposals that are developed throughout the year.
- Ensure compliance with KUSU’s financial regulations and procedures.
- Evaluate organisational and departmental business plans.
- To undertake any other reasonable additional duties as required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
QUALIFICATIONS
- Educated to A Level or equivalent.
- Professional finance qualificationsessential.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS∙
- Preparation of VAT returns and payroll.
- Experience of SageLine 100and content management systems.
- Problem solver and able to work on own initiative.
- Good interpersonal, presentation and organisational ability.
- Previous proven experience in a Finance role.
- Previous HR experience would be advantageous.
- Excellent attention to detail and experience of preparing documents to a high standard without supervision.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skillsand computer literate withspreadsheets, word processing and computerisedaccounting package(s).
- Ability to communicate bothspoken and written with a range of colleagues (non finance staff and students) and external contacts.
