JOB PROFILE

Role: Support Technician – Engineering

Salary: £15,729 per annum (pro rata where applicable)

Accountable to: Faculty Area Manager - Engineering

Will join a team responsible for the up keep of the Project workshops and teaching spaces along with ensuring all tools and equipment are maintained. The post holder will provide a high standard of technical support assisting staff and students in workshop related activities, which are STEM focussed. Where necessary the post holder will also need installation skills for setting up workshop spaces and constructing training rigs and benches used in teaching a wide variety of units. Ensuring risk assessments are carried out for all activities and all H&S procedures and policies are followed at all times. Ensuring resources are ready and available for sessions in advance of classes starting. Reordering materials as and when necessary within a set budget.

Portfolio of responsibilities:

  • Prepares and issues resources.
  • Maintain the working environment ensuring it is clean, tidy and safe.
  • Receives stores; issues and distributes materials, stock and equipment
  • Maintains stock records and assists with stocktaking.
  • Undertakes the routine maintenance and preparation of equipment.
  • Reports defects.
  • Attends meetings as requested.
  • Modifies equipment and resources and advises on its suitability.
  • Ensures area walk round safety inspections are completed and related reports are produced.
  • Undertakes stocktaking and ensures inventories are maintained.
  • Undertakes the planned maintenance of equipment and specialist areas.
  • Demonstrates practical techniques to learner groups.
  • Assists with the supervision of learners and learners groups (including learners attending the College on work experience).
  • Undertakes the assessment of learner competence and monitors progress.
  • Supports the curriculum area with the purchasing of services and supplies.
  • Assist with the supervision of Technical Assistant

Qualifications:
1 / Level 2 qualification in a STEM based skills area. / E / X
2 / Hold a recognised teaching qualification / E / X
3 / Knowledge and certification in the Health and Safety legislation relevant to the area; or the willingness to work towards attaining these. / E / X
Experience and Skills:
4 / Recent experience of working or training in a STEM related Industry / E / X
5 / Vocational experience of Engineering/STEM related equipment / E / X / X
6 / Experience of producing teaching/learning/training materials / E / X / X
7 / Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in a STEM related area, such as milling machines, lathes and fabrication equipment. / D / X
