The Church assists the parents by offering instruction on the meaning, importance, and responsibilities of the sacrament of Baptism. A Pre-Jordan Baptismal Program for helping parents prepare for the spiritual birth of their child is held on the fourth Sunday of the month in the Spirituality Center following the Noon Mass. The next Pre Jordan is January 25, 2015.

The Baptism of the Lord

Today, we celebrate the feast of the Baptism of Jesus. The baptism of Jesus marks the beginning of his public ministry. Jesus begins the work he was sent to earth to do. Throughout the coming year, the Gospel of Saint Mark will be used to deepen our knowledge and understanding of Jesus.

The feast of the Baptism of the Lord also marks the end of the Christmas season for the Church. The following reflection provides insight into not only what the mission of Jesus is but also what the mission of all who have been baptized is.

When the song of the angels is stilled,

When the star in the sky is gone,

When the kings and princes are home,

When the shepherds are back with their flock,

The work of Christmas begins:

To find the lost,

To heal the broken,

To feed the hungry,

To release the prisoner,

To rebuild the nations,

To bring peace among people,

To lend a hand to a friend in trouble,

To build up a child’s self-confidence,

To spend time with a lonely neighbor,

To forgive someone who has hurt you,

To make music in the heart.

The Liturgical Season of Ordinary Time

Our celebration of the Advent and Christmas season concludes this weekend. From Monday until Ash Wednesday (February 18th), we are in a liturgical season that is simply referred to as Ordinary Time. We are sent as ordinary people into ordinary places with a most extraordinary gift, namely, Jesus Christ. At Christmas, we celebrated the birth and presence of Jesus among us. Now, Jesus invites us to take Him into the ordinary places of our lives so that He may grace others and us with His gifts of salvation.

“Thank you” from Blessed Margaret Home – To all who participated in the wonderful, large donation of diapers, baby outfits, baby toiletries, and other baby items for their needs, through the generosity of the Parish Giving Tree. Know that by your charity, you touch the lives of so many in need.

God Bless,

Melissa Rizzo-Bilynsky Director

“Thank you St. Joan of Arc Mission” – In the name of all of us here at the Mission of St. Joan of Arc who benefitted from your extraordinary generosity at Christmas time, I would like to profoundly thank you. We are always amazed at how you treat total strangers with the same care and consideration that you give to your family members. The quality of the gifts and they way they were selected and wrapped was an inspiration to us all. I would especially like to thank Frank Nessel and the Christmas Giving Tree committee for organizing this huge project, not just for us, but for others as well. Please be assured of our continued prayer for each of you and your families during this New Year.

Gratefully,

Sister Linda Lukiewski, SSJ

Pastoral Minister

Vincentian Message…

After Jesus was baptized, he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and a voice was heard “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” As we give to the poor, we also can hear these same words.

As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent DePaul Poor Box, know that you are a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering and you give them reason to believe and to trust.
