Safety Equipment / Purposesafety apron / Safety aprons protect our skin and clothing from accidental splashes and spills.
eyewash station / Eyewash stations are used to flush the eyes or face with water to remove or dilute chemicals other irritants.
fire alarm / Fire alarms directly notify the fire department of a fire.
fire blanket / Fire blankets can be used to prevent oxygen from reaching a flame.
fire extinguisher / Fire extinguishers are used to put out fires.
running water / Running water can be used to wash hazardous materials from the hands, clean equipment, remove spilled chemicals from the body, and put non-electrical fires out.
safety goggles / Safety goggles protect the eyes from spills, splashes, and flying objects.
heat resistant gloves / Heat resistant gloves are used to pick up and protect hands from hot materials.
· If you spill a chemical on yourself immediately wash the area of the spill with large amounts of water. Use the eyewash or shower if necessary. Notify teacher.
· If your clothing catches on fire use the fire blanket or stop, drop, and roll.
· Wear safety goggles when working with chemicals, glassware, heat, or other dangerous equipment.
· All students should act responsibly in the lab. Horseplay is not allowed in the lab.
· Eating or drinking in the lab is only allowed when authorized by the teacher.
· Students who do not work safely in the lab will (depending upon the action by student) either sit out the lab, call parent/guardian, or receive a referral.
