Process for Faculty Hiring

During the budget planning process each year, The Dean/Dept Chair/Program Director will need to requestFaculty positions they plan to recruit for.These positions will ultimately need to be reviewed and approved by the Provost and Sr. Leadership Team. If approved, the department can move forward with the steps below. If a need arises for additional Faculty outside of the annual budget planning process, the Dean/Dept Chair/Program Director will need to complete the Authorization for Unbudgeted Faculty Recruitment form and have it signed by the Provost, CFO, CIFO, and HR.

Formal Recruiting (ex. interviewing, phone screening) should not take place until step 6 is completed. All candidates must also apply online before being considered for a position in order to meet OFCCP Compliance requirements and ensure we have accounted for our total candidate pool.

  1. A. The Dean/Dept Chair/Program Director completes the Authorization to Begin Faculty Recruitmentform and has it signed by the Provost, CIFO, and HR.

  1. Appoint a Search Committee if one has not already been created for the year. Make every effort to incorporate diversity into the search committee make up.

  1. The Committee Chair meets/contacts HR to identify advertising placements, while also ensuring that the ads will be appearing in diverse media markets.

  1. A. Candidates will apply online and HR will review each of the candidates and electronically send viable candidates to the Committee Chair for review.

B. If CVs are obtained and the candidate did not apply online, it is the Committee Chair’s responsibility to forward those CVs along to HR for documentation and communicate to the candidate that they will need to apply to the posting requisition.

  1. The Search Committee reviews the CVs and narrows the candidate pool to the candidates they are interested in moving forward with.

  1. The Search Committee meets to establish a screening matrix and standard questions to evaluate each of the candidates.

Instructor/Assistant Professor: The Dean will recommend rank to the Provost for approval.

Associate Professor/Professor: The Dean will recommend rank to the Provost. Rank and Promotion will then review and make a recommendation to the Provost.

  1. The Program writes up an offer letter/contract (using the Program’s template) and the offer letter is then sent back to HR for review, and once approved, to the candidate, on MGH IHP letterhead, via email or mail for signature.
