Safety Requirements for Caterpillar Employees while at the Clayton Customer & Training Center:

Schedule all visits to the Clayton Customer & Training Center with the one of our schedulers:

  • Request what machines, tools, and how they are to be used

Upon Arrival to the C&TC

  • Sign in to guest book upon arrival to the C&TC at the front desk.
  • All visitors will receive a safety brief before operating machines.
  • Radios will be assigned upon arrival and returned when leaving.
  • Channel 2 is monitored at the C&TC
  • Class 2 Safety Vests per ANSI/ISEA 107-2015 will be worn in demo areas at all times. One will be provided if you do not have one.
  • Tinted or Clear protective safety glassesANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2015 will be provided and should be worn when outside of a machine while Hydraulic tools are being used, operating an open ROPS canopy, or while working on machines.
  • Approved Safety shoes will be worn in the demo areas by Caterpillar Employees (steel or composite toed shoes)
  • According to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.136 Protectivefootwear must comply with any of the following consensus standards:
  1. ASTM F-2412-2005, "Standard Test Methods for Foot Protection," and ASTM F-2413-2005, "Standard Specification for Performance Requirements for Protective Footwear," which are incorporated by reference in § 1910.6
  2. ANSI Z41-1999, "American National Standard for Personal Protection -- Protective Footwear," which is incorporated by reference in § 1910.6.
  • Rings (Silicone Rings Included), long necklaces, and non-break away lanyards will be removed. Break away lanyards are approved during training.
  • Per Section 36 of the employee handbook “cell phone use is prohibited while operating any industrial vehicle on company premises. The use of any electronic communication device(s) is prohibited when walking, performing any hands-on work or operating any industrial vehicle while on CaterpillarClayton property. Cell phone use is also prohibited on the shop floor and yard unless the cell phone is being used during breaks and lunch or for business purposes. Do not perform hands on work while talking on the cell phone”.

Perform a walk around of machine before operating.

  • A walk around consists of:

Checking for leaks

Checking fluid levels – Hydraulic Oil, Engine Oil, Fuel / Water Separator, and Coolant

Checking for debris in tracks, wheels, and undercarriage

  • If fluids are low, a leak in hose, or damage to a machine report to:

When operating a machine:

  • Three points of contact will be used while climbing on and off of machines.
  • You must face the machine while climbing on and off.
  • Seat belts required while operating machines.
  • Sound the horn before starting machines.
  • Make eye contact with any person outside of machine if they are approaching the area.
  • If you are approaching a machine operating make sure eye contact is made with operator.
  • Stay alert at all times while operating machines
  • Machines will be operated in a safe manner at all times.
  • Machines will be operated in preapproved or designated areas only.

Upon Departure of the C&TC

  • All areas where dirt has been moved, holes dug will be back filled and graded before leaving.
  • Machines and tools will be cleaned and returned to designated area after use.
  • Please return all items and sign out of guest book and let someone from the C&TC Teamknow when leaving.

Inside the Red lineis considered the Demonstration area and Personal Protection Equipment is required.
