Safety Newsletter 2010

Reduce Speed in Prairie Ridge – To ensure that all residents and guests remain safe throughout the year, please ask your visiting relatives and friends to abide to the posted speed limits of 20 MPH while in Prairie Ridge. Many homes have small children and individuals who walk/run using the roads within Prairie Ridge. Adhering to the speed limits allows the driver and those using the road outside the vehicle to react within enough time to avoid a dangerous situation. Speeding reduces that reaction time and could result in severe injury or even death. We, as residents of Prairie Ridge, would like to ensure that our roads are as safe as they can be for all to utilize with little worry about speeding vehicles.

Small Motor Toys – Toys such as motorized remote controlled cars, are not permitted to utilizepublic roads (including within Prairie Ridge). Please ensure your children understand the limitations of these toys before playing with them. The intent of this information is to help parents become aware that toys on public roadways are a safety risk to those who play with them on roads as well as those in motor vehicles driving on the roads. Help make the roadways within Prairie Ridge safe.

Create Barriersagainst Theft– Theft has been an ever growing problem throughout Prairie Ridge the last few years; especially with the gloomy economy. We would like to remind all residents to ensure that all doors and access points to your home are locked each day when you are not at home and each night (including the garage doors). This will deter any would-be-thief from having an opportunity to strike.

For those who would like an extra barrier from potential home invaders (at any time), you could install a storm door on your front/rear doors. This will place another barrier between those unwelcome individuals and yourself and your belongings.

Having a good rapport with your neighbors has great advantages besides good conversation. Ask your neighbors to assist you in maintaining a theft free zone by keeping an eye on things when you are traveling or unable to check on your home personally and return the favor as often as your can. Having extra eyes and ears watch over homes and streets is a great way to minimize your theft risk. Once our Neighborhood Watch is in full force, we will have even more preventive barriers against theft.

Keep Safe!
