SAFETY CONTRACT FOR CLASSROOM PETS

I, ______, parent of ______agree to allow my student to participate in classroom labs and observations that involve classroom animals.

I, ______, agree to abide by the rules and directions clearly laid out by Mrs. O’Connor and lab directions when handling or interacting with classroom pets. I will always wear gloves (when needed) and will always sanitize my hands after handling animals. On a daily basis, students will work to regularly maintain a healthy living environment for classroom pets by monitoring noise level, avoiding hitting or tapping on cages, or disturbing the animal in any way.

This waiver is for and in consideration of permitting the person indicated above to participate in classroom observations and labs that involve classroom animals. With full knowledge of the rules and expectations of the student, I hereby voluntarily release, discharge and relinquish any and all actions, causes of action and claims for personal injury, or any other damages occurring to them arising out of, or in any way related to, their participation in these activities.

I understand that Mrs. O’Connor will not bring in dangerous specimens, will not force students to touch or interact with animals, and that any and all actions will be done on a voluntary basis. Observations of classroom pets will be done regularly by all students from whatever distance they are comfortable. Negligence and/or carelessness of these rules will result in an immediate detention and a referral to the administration.
