SAFETY CONTRACT, HAND AND POWER TOOL PERMISSION SLIP FOR CHHS ENGINEERING CLUB

As part of our Engineering Club, your son or daughter may have the opportunity to operate or be in the presence of operating power tools and other non-powered tools. We would like to stress that, before a student is allowed to operate or be in the presence of operating and non-powered tools the student must:

1. I understand that eye protection needs to be worn correctly in the shop at all times without exception.

2. I will follow all safety procedures at all times without exception.

3. I understand that loose clothing, loose jewelry, including rings of any kind, long hair (not in a ponytail), and neckties or hoodie drawstrings can be dangerous in the shop and should not be worn.

4. I understand that Safety Signs are to be understood before using the equipment and the safety procedures are to be followed during its use.

5. I understand that protective clothing is an important part of shop safety and that shoes that cover the toes should always be worn while in the shop.

6. I understand that horseplay in never allowed in the shop and can cause serious injury to myself and to other students around me.

7. I will report all accidents, no matter how minor.

8. I understand that cleaning the shop at the end of each class period is an important part of shop safety and I will participate at the end of every class or whenever it is needed.

9. I understand that all tools and equipment, wood and supplies are to be stored correctly and safely.

10. Parent/Guardian signature indicates the student can be trusted to use hand and power tools safely and grants permission for student to learn about and use hand and power tools with instructor supervision.

In order for us to have an awareness of your knowledge of your child’s activities, we must have your consent before allowing your child to use any powered or non-powered tool. We invite you to visit the school at any time. Failure to comply with this safety contract can and will result in removal from the Engineering club for liability reasons.
