Leamington North
Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT)
Our team works on a variety of projects, and here are details of our activity over the last few weeks:
News stories
On the 5th June an elderly male returned to his home on Lillington Road and noticed that his home had been entered by intruders. He phoned police, who were on the scene within 5 minutes. Officers gave chase to 2 suspects, and although they disappeared out of sight, the suspects dropped a number of items which had been stolen from the property. These have been sent for forensic analysis.
On the 11th June a member of the public phoned police to report a suspected drink driver. Officers located the vehicle within 15 minutes, and the driver was arrested after failing a breath test. Due to suspicious behaviour by the driver, a search was conducted of the vehicle, and drugs were found.
On the 18th June a Car was stopped in North Leamington containing a substantial amount of drugs and cash.
On the 23rd June two bikes were recovered from a burglary and reunited to their owner by PCSO’s.
Events
The Team have been busy this month with a variety of events as well as their usual day to day jobs.
We had the Peace Festival and The OVO Energy Women’s Tour Cycling Race as well as a number of smaller local events, some of which we have listed below;
On the 11th June members of the SNT plus two senior ranked officers attended the ‘Islam Religion of Peace’ event at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mosque, Leamington Spa. This event was to commemorate the victims of Manchester's barbaric attack.
On the 21st June PCSO’s attended the Mural Celebration and Southorn Court. The Mural was created by local children at Lillington Youth Centre. It was unveiled at the celebration by the Mayor, Councillor Caroline Evetts.
On the 22nd June PCSO’s attended the Relaunch of the Chain on Crown Way. It was a well attended event and a lovely opportunity for officers to meet local residents.
You can speak to local officers on the first Thursday of every month at the Chain Hub between 10am and 12pm. Neighbourhood Watch is also run at the Chain Hub.
On the 24th June 17 PCSO’s attended the Amadiyya Muslim Mosque for the Eid Mubarak to celebrate the end of Ramadan.
On the 15th and the 25th June our team participated in the National Summer Drink Drive Campaign. Although a large number of cars were stopped throughout the campaign no drivers were found to be over the limit.
Throughout the month PCSO’s have continued to seize vehicles without tax from the streets. DVLA have also been present in our area doing the same.
Crime Prevention Advice
During the warmer weather, we would remind residents of North Leamington to keep their homes and possessions safe. Please consider the following points:
· Don’t leave your doors and windows unlocked, even when you’re at home. An opportunist might just gain entry if you make it easy for them.
· If you’re working in your garden, make sure other areas of your property are secure.
· Don’t leave garden tools out in your garden. A ladder or garden spade could be used to help a burglar get in to your own home.
· Even though you might be using bikes more frequently, keep them secure and locked in sheds and garages.
· Remember to close your sunroof when leaving your car.
· Don’t leave dogs for a long period in vehicles. Police often get called by members of the public to check on animals.
· Report any suspicious activity to police on 101.
Giving information to Police
If you have information about the supply of drugs call police on 101, or remain anonymous by speaking to the independent charity Crimestoppers, 0800 555 111, www.crimestoppers-uk.org
About your team
Safer Neighbourhood Teams work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and solve issues that matter to the community where you live.
Making neighbourhoods safer by cutting day-to-day crime and anti-social behaviour is at the heart of keeping people in Warwickshire safe. Thanks to an investment in mobile tablet style computers, these
will enable officers to spend more time on patrol on the street and in neighbourhoods.
Officers will continue to come to people when they need them and provide a high quality service however you contact us - in person (on the street, at community bases and at partners and communities together [PACT] meetings), on the phone or online.
