SAFE WORK PROCEDURE

General Notes: This procedure creates a lot of air-borne dust so pick a time when the gym will not be used for the day. The fans are the "caged-in" type typically loacated in gymnasiums. Note: You must be qualified to use the indoor genie lift, including fall protection instructions and a practical demonstration.

Personal Protective Equipment

N-95 dust mask Fall protection (travel restraint) including a full body harness, coveralls

Hazards Present

Dust could be blown throughout the school or enter the HVAC system
All hazards associated with the genie
You may be assigned more work

Safe Work Procedure

1 / Prepare gym / Turn off air handling units and close gym doors. Wear coveralls and an N-95 dust mask
2 / Set up genie / You must be certified by the school division to use the genie. You must also use fall protection (travel restraint) including a full body harness
3 / Use a leaf blower to clean the fans
4 / After cleaning all the fans turn them on low to push the suspended dust down.
5 / After 30 minutes use the leaf blower to blow dust off of (and underneath) the bleachers.
6 / After another 15 minutes sweep the floor, open the outside doors, turn fans on high to purge the gym
7 / Show off work to your boss / Keep quiet!
