A Great Project for Next Year!

I am excited to announce that we will have a First Nations carver at our school next year! Our teachers wanted to help our students learn about First Nations values and came up with a great idea, having every student in our school help to carve a picture that everyone would see for years to come. We have brought in a professional First Nations carver, Simon James, who has discussed with students the kind of images that would be on the carving. The plan is to make a 1.5 meter high by 3 meterwide carving that will hang in the hallway near the office. The artist plans to be at Morley for about seven weeks from 9 am to about 3 pm. The images will include several wolves to represent our motto of “Safe, Welcome and Responsible.” Trees and mountains to show our growth and connection to the environment and a variety of other images to show the link between First Nations values and those of our school community. We will set aside the room Ms. Deo is currently using so that this large carving can be laid out and classes can come and participate in the project. Our thanks to our PAC for their support of this project! It will cost about $13,000 and the funds will come from a grant from ArtStarts, PAC Gaming Funds and fundraising as well as school funds. Our murals at the front of the school show our school’s culture to people that go by the outside of the school. This carving will show our culture and be a talking point for all who enter our school for years to come.

Sports Day

Don’t forget – students will be dismissed at 12:30 pm on Sports Day! PAC will not be doing a lunch this year but there will be a concession available for parents and students to purchase food (barbeque hot dogs for $1.50, popcorn, cookies, juice, etc.). The School Meals Program will be taking place as usual (Curried chick peas on steamed rice). If your child is not on the School Meals Program you may want to send a lunch or money for them to purchase food as we will be having a lunch break from 11:30 – 12:05.

Sports Day Schedule:
