Resident Assistant Job Description

Reports to: directly to the Summer Conference Director, and Residence Hall Directors, the Residential Life Office Manager, and Assistant Director and Director of Residential Life, and indirectly to the Summer Conference Operations Supervisor

Basic Expectations: Each Summer Conference Resident Assistant, under the direct supervision of the Summer Conference Residence Hall Director will carry out all responsibilities related to housing for Sacred Heart University for Summer Conferences.

Each Summer Conference Resident Assistant will serve as on-duty staff for the residence halls which house the Summer Conferences, and are also expected to work at least two 4 hours shifts per week as part of their Summer Conference and Office of Residential Life duties. This shift will mainly focus on the administrative needs of the department. The Summer Conference Resident Assistant will also be responsible for the tracking of maintenance and administrative concerns in one area of the Residence Life Program. Summer Resident Assistants are expected to work each First Year Orientation Sessions for move-in and Residential Life Information Sessions. There may be significant weekend and evening work, and fluctuation in the number of hours worked per week should be anticipated. Some weeks will require 40 or more hours of work, while some will require fewer than 20 hours.

Summer Resident Assistants are expected to have a positive attitude, willingness to work hard, flexibility to adapt to a varying work schedule, the ability to think and act quickly and intelligently, resourcefulness, the desire and commitment to work as part of a team, and an understanding of, and commitment to, quality customer service.

Compensation:

·  Summer Conference Resident Assistant One

o  $2,000.00 for first time, $2,200.00 for returning staff

·  Meals--while summer conferences are in session only

·  Rent-free housing for period of employment

Term of Appointment:

·  Summer Conference Resident Assistant One

o  Attendance at Summer RA Training Day – Friday June 1, 2018 9 am to 2 pm

o  June 1, 2018 – August 5, 2018

o  If RA is a residential student in Fall 2018 we will house the RA in the interim between job conclusion and the start of the academic year at no charge. Location to be determined based on availability of permanent Fall 2018 location.

Position Responsibilities:

The Summer Conference Resident Assistant will perform the following tasks:

Building Administration

o  Assist in check-ins, check-outs, and key card exchanges for Summer Conferences and Summer Students.

o  Assist with Early Arrival check-ins. Staff will be required to work 3 to 4 hour shifts.

o  Address maintenance and facilities needs expeditiously.

o  Communicate effectively with Office of Residential Life and Housing Services central office staff, Public Safety, Summer Conferencing supervisors, and fellow RAs in all matters pertaining to Summer Students and Summer Conferences.

Residential Life Office Administration

o  Work two four hour shifts in the Residential Life office each week

o  Schedule to be determined once hired

o  M – Th 9 am to 1 pm, M – Th 1 pm to 5 pm, F – 9 am to 1 pm

o  Assist in room assignments for incoming students for the Fall semester

o  Perform clerical duties such as filing, copying, and assembly of mailings, etc.

o  Provide assistance with damage billing and appeals

o  Utilize excellent customer service in executing all responsibilities

o  Work Orientation on June 7, June 11 and June 14 – 6:45 am to Noon

On-Call Responsibilities

o  Serve as rotating on-duty staff throughout the summer.

o  Respond to emergency situations.

o  Uphold and enforce University policies.

Community Development

o  Work to ensure the safety and comfort of Summer Conference guests.

o  Other duties as assigned
