The raffle winner for the $500 cash prize, who wishes to remain anonymouse, donated the winnings back to the Festival. Tim & Pat Schoellen were the raffle winners of the $1,000 cash prize. It was reported that Parishioner Ivan Saw See Myint would like to set up a tent outside of the church next year during the Fall Festival so ethnic food can be served.

B. October Mass Counts – Don Johnston reported that it’s that time of year again when we conduct mass counts during all of the October weekend masses. C. Parish Financial Information and Statistics – Don Johnston handed out a proposed “Parish information for the year ended June 30, 2016” document that will provide financial and statistical information for Sacred Heart Parish for fiscal year 2015/2016. Don stated that there was a short fall of $125,492.00 for fiscal year 2015/2016. Council members asked Don to include statistical information from 2012 to show a comparison with stats from 2015/2016. This document will be handed out during the October 15th & 16th, 2016 masses. Parish Finance Committee members will also provide a verbal presentation to parishioners explaining the information.

OLD BUSINESS

A. Sacred Heart School Roof – Doug Miller and Cheryl Werner stated that there is no status change concerning roof repairs at this point in time. We are still waiting for Andy Mills to perform the repairs, which will hopefully take place yet this fall.

B. Sound System – Don Johnston reported that the new sound system seems to be working well and that we have received many compliments on the new system and the quality of the sound that it emits.

OTHER

Doug Miller and Brian Dolan met with a representative from Conrad Schmitz concerning the tear in the ceiling on the St. Joseph’s side of the church. The representative said that this will be a “simple repair,” but they won’t be able to perform the work until sometime in the spring of 2017. They will submit a bid for the damaged spot and a bid to repair/retouch that whole section of the ceiling.

Doug Miller said that Mary Jones, CVCS Food Manager, donated a cooler to Sacred Heart Parish that was removed from St. Edwards’ church. The cooler now sits in Sacred Heart’s O’Hagan Hall and was used during the 2016 Fall Festival. Doug said that the CVCS maintenance staff worked together to move the cooler from St. Edwards to Sacred Heart.

Cheryl Werner provided updates to the report that she submitted for this meeting.

1.  There is no new information or action concerning the Church Row green space area.

2.  They will be using interpreters for the October 25th and 27th, 2016 School Conferences.

3.  The Parent Advisory Group will meet four times a year with a goal to be all inclusive.

4.  The Cardinal Council Project will take place on October 13, 2016 with special recognition given to the memory of Patty McClain. The Project will focus on the various cancers that exist and will bring awareness, remembrance and prayer to these illnesses and the people affected by them.

5.  The Cardinal Club meets on Fridays.

6.  The UNI Reading Clinic will recognize a different CVCS School every Tuesday.

7.  CVCS schools will receive Blue Zone recognition.

Mark Sinnwell stated that CVCS is consolidating their outstanding debt, to the tune of 2.5 million dollars, and will work toward paying this off in a timely manner.

Don Johnston voiced concern about Sacred Heart’s Social Concern Committee designating a recent “First Fruits” collection to the 220 East project. Don stated that Sacred Heart already subsidizes this project. Don suggested that the “First Fruits” collection could go to St. Vincent de Paul or some other organization instead.

Father Stecher said that he received several positive comments about the 2016 Fall Festival meal and how he’d like to keep this “menu” as a constant in the years to come. Nancy Rigel stated that the Parish received a thankyou from some of the residents of Liberty Manor for the homebound meals that were delivered to them as part of the 2016 Fall Festival.

William Simo stated that several of the Burmese parishioners have requested that they only receive communion from Father Luigi and not from Eucharistic Ministers during the once a month Burmese mass. Father Stecher and the Council agreed to let Father Luigi decide how this will be handled.
