I.  PURPOSE:

The purpose of this policy is to outline the directions for paging physicians.

II.  SCOPE:

This policy involves all personnel who page physicians.

III.  RESPONSIBILITY:

A.  Between the hours of 7:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, please contact the page operator.

B.  From 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday and 24 hours on weekends and holidays, the requestor should contact the physician’s office directly for further information. Two (2) attempts, 15 minutes apart, will be made to contact the physician; then, the appropriate chain of command will be followed according to General Policy # GEN_ 624.

C.  The following physicians should continue to be paged through the hospital operator at all times:

Department of Radiology Department of Pathology

Family Practice Residents Dr. Ruhi Subzposh

Dental Residents

V.  METHODS

A.  For physicians with digital only pagers, four one’s (1111) will be placed after numbers which are STAT pages

B.  Alphanumeric – when sending a page, always put in the full phone number (000-000-0000), first name and last initial of the person paging (name limited to 10 characters)

C.  Digital page – always put in the full phone number (000-000-0000) when paging

VI.  EXCEPTIONS

When paging during the day, some physicians require that their offices are called directly. In these cases, the operator will instruct the requestor to phone the office directly.

If a physician who requires their office to be called is in the hospital and is needed urgently, the operators will be instructed to page the physician overhead.
