2nd Grade Homework Assignments

Please assist your child in making sure that all homeworkpages haveyour child’s name, are initialed by you and stapled or paper clipped together. Practicing new skills and concepts learned in the classroom by completing homework is important for your child because… PRACTICE MAKES PERMANENT!

RELIGION

We have completed Sadlier Chapter 5, Confirmation. With your child, please review the pages with emphasis on the “Take Home” on page 77. As always, the pages are yours to keep.

LANGUAGE ARTS

We have finished Unit 2 and will be taking the assessment test next week. No spelling or Backpack pages – please do the Reading Log – thanks

Reading Log: Please assist your child in completing the attached Weekly Reading Log. Students should have a mixture of silent read, read to you and you read to them. The goal is 20 minutes or more each day!

MATH

We continue our engageNY Module 2, Addition and Subtraction of Length Units and our OnCore Program with emphasis on Operations and Algebraic Thinking.

Engage– Attached is the Topic DMath Note (for your reference) along with Lessons 8 and 10. Also included aresome fun Fall math activities!

On Core- For the next couple weeks, we are focusing on 2-digit addition and subtraction. This week: Addition - Attached Lessons 36, 37 and 38. Also included is a fun math practice sheet.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We continue to complete the pieces for our Family Albums and have been working in class on our 10 Interesting Facts for our Ancestor Report.

Homework: Please assist your child in completing the attached “Words of Wisdom” Please note that this is a letter written by your child to their grandchildren!

Please assist your child in deciding on a visual aid to bring on Ancestor Day.(please see attached letter!)

Please Note…

  1. Veterans Day Mass, next Wednesday, 11/11 @8:45am hosted by our 5th grade friends. Please see the flyer in your Parent Envelope. Also, please assist your student(s) in remembering to bring a canned or boxed food item for the offertory. All food collected helps feed needy people in our community. We hope to see you and yours at our Mass next Wednesday!
  1. Attached are two copies of the permission slip for our trip to Asistencia Villa next Thursday, 11/12. Please complete and return one copy of the permission slip (the other copy is for you to keep.) As always, we will need transportation - drivers are welcome to stay for the program or may simply drop off and pick us up! Permission slips are due back to class by Monday, 11/9. There is no charge for this outing.

Please note the following: During our visit to Asistencia, 2nd grade will honor the Saints and will be processing into Asistencia singing, “When the Saints Come Marching In.” Each student has chosen a Saint that they would like to represent and will be wearing something to identify their choice.

  1. Holy Name of Jesus Parish will host a Thanksgiving Day Mass on Thursday, 11/26, at 9:00am. This will be a multi-cultural celebration and our church is looking for people to read a Prayer of the Faithful in their native language. Please contact me if you’d like to help! Thank you!
  1. SHA BOOK FAIR! Next week, 11/9-11/12 is our Fall Bookfair. Second grade will be visiting the Bookfair 2X – Monday, 11/9, 11:30-Noon and again on Tuesday, 8:30-9:00am. On Monday, students may purchase books or just make a Wish List for shopping on Tuesday. Of course, purchasing books at the Bookfair is optional – students may make a Wish List to take home for purchase at another time!
