Section 9.4 SAA FOM
SAA A/C are classified as Cat C & D A/C for app minima applicability.
Weather minima; conditions listed as BECMG/BECMG & TEMPO are considered below minimum, conditions listed as PROB/PROB & TEMPO need only be considered whenever judged operationally significant. (9.1.2.6.9)
Dest & Alt must be above minimas as per (9.1.3.2/4). If Dest conditions below minima, or no wx @ Dest, req 2 suitable alternates (9.1.3.1.2)
No Dest Alt req'd if; flight duration less than 6 hrs & dest has 2 separate runways (i.e. sep app proc's) or dest is isolated and there is no dest alt, see 9.1.7.4 - Isolated Aerodrome Procedure. (9.1.3.1.2)
(9.1.3.2.1)
Visual App basic min 800m
Circling - CatA400'1500m

DH50' 200/150mPass
AH100'/DH20' 200/150mOps
Manually flown Cat II app's not approved for SAA operations. [Since Cat II minimas are 100' & 300/150m and an Autoland is required below 400m, a coupled app Cat II is also only allowed with revised RVR limit of 400m, auto pilot to be disconnected @ 50' AGL on the RALT.] (9.4.16.2)
Cat II/III app's only on CAA/SAA approved runways and only by qualified crew. (9.4.19.5.1)
Required visual ref's before landing (9.1.3.2.4/5)
Only require (mandatory) TDZ & Mid ZN for CAT II/III ops, roll-out is advisory. (9.4.12.8 & 9.4.16.2/3)
Where RVR not available, Capt adjusts VIS (according to table 9.1.3.2.6) for non-precision & Cat I App's only (9.4.13.2)
Must advise ATC of intention to conduct a Cat II/III landing (9.4.19.5.2)
If Cat II/III app expected at destination, A/C must be serviceable prior to dispatch and prior to initiating app. (9.4.20.1.2)
Approach Ban, applicable to RVR/VIS only and decision point is the OM or 1000' AGL if no OM. (9.4.13.2)
Commander must accept airport authority's RVR as mandatory (9.4.12.7) (9.4.10.4) & all req'd RVR readouts must be above minima (9.4.10.4).
Takeoff Alt for Performance Class A A/C: Twins, 1 hr @ single eng cruising speed or (the lesser of ETOPS diversion time or 2 hrs); 3&4 Eng A/C, 2 hrs @ single eng out cruise speed. (9.1.3.1.1)
T/O Alternate Minima: Allow 1 Eng Operation, not less than CAT I minima. (9.1.3.3)
Dest/Dest Alternate Minima: CATII & III req CAT I/CAT I req Non-Prec & Ceiling >= MDH/Non-Prec req Non-Prec+200'1000m & Ceiling >= MDH/Circling req Circling. (9.1.3.4)
LVP's:200'/600m (9.4.3(20)). Must be in force prior to LV T/O's and Cat II/III ops (9.4.7(c))
ATC protection precautions listed in (9.4.19.5.7), mandatory for Cat II/III ops (9.4.19.4)
When RVR < 400m, do no ask for start until RVR = T/O minima - 50m (9.4.11.2)
LVTO: 150-400m (125m SAA with conditions) (9.1.3.1.3 & 9.1.3.1.4 &
9.4.3(21))
LV T/O's can be conducted by FO, Landings by Capt only(off monitored app!!). (9.4.6)
Min RVR with no LVP's = 400m (9.1.3.1.4)
Req'd RVR values must be available for takeoff run dist and stop dist = ASD. Initial RVR can be replaced by Capt's asses. by making use of edge (60m) or centreline (15/30m) lights. (9.1.3.1.3)
Visual T/O: 3000m/1500'; if no CTZ (ops restr's); 1500m with CTZ (9.1.3.1.3)
Monitored App: 500'/2000m and all Non-Prec App's (9.4.20.2.1)
Coupled App: 1000m (9.4.16.1 & 9.4.20.2.1)
Autoland: 400m (600m if possible) (9.4.16.1)
During RDR vectoring, terrain & traffic clearance ATC responsibility, but pilots to refer to RDR Terrain Clearance Chart and ensure adequate clearance (9.4.12.3)
Height Calls wrt RALT for CAT II/III as these constitute Low Vis Landings. (9.4.6)
All height calls above gnd after 500' wrt RALT on Cat II/III app's. (9.4.16.4.1)
Fail Pass/Ops
Pass CAT IIIA = 50' DH
Ops CAT IIIA = 100' AH/20' DH (9.4.16.3)
Min height for autopilot disconnect on non-precis app is 50' below MDA. (9.4.18.1.2)
Failures on finals: H > 1000' = rectify, no limits. H < 1000' app downgraded or abandoned. (9.4.20.3.2)

Autoland:HW/XW/TW: 25/15/10
It is not necessary to inform ATC of intention to do autoland unless protection req'd. (9.4.19.4)
CATII/III Land dists are to be increased by 15%, therefore make use of Wet pages = 15% increase in dry landing dist. (9.4.18.2.1)
Landing not allowed when braking action reported poor or aquaplaning conditions exist. (9.3.8.5.13)
