S&S Back On Litter Patrol!

Help them “Clean to the Green” on April 12

COLCHESTER, Conn. – Colchester’s answer to litterbugs are back! Those garbage-hating do-gooders at S&S Worldwide will host their 4th annual Clean to the Green on April 12.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., S&S associates armed with pokers, trash bins and rubber gloves will walk various routes from the company’s 75 Mill Street headquarters to the Colchester Green, picking up litter along the way. Members of the community are invited to participate. Food and beverages will be provided for all volunteers.

“S&S does a tremendous job leading the effort to keep our town beautiful,” said First Selectman Gregg Schuster. “I encourage all residents to follow their example and do what they can to keep Colchester looking its best.”

The event has earned S&S consecutive GreenCircle™ awards from the state DEEP each of the last two years.

Co-President Adam Schwartz said the annual tradition is a fun way to show civic pride.

“The trash along the roadways and sidewalks has been piling up. It’s an eyesore not only for people who live here, but the people who work here, too,” he said. “Let’s roll up our sleeves and do a little spring cleaning. Join us if you can!”

Co-President Hy Schwartz added that with Earth Day and Arbor Day right around the corner, April is the perfect time to clean up the town.

“We know it’s hard for people to take time out of their busy schedules, but it makes a huge impact,” he said. “If nothing else, we hope that if people see what we’re doing, maybe the next time they walk pass a crumpled piece of paper or an empty cigarette box, they’ll pick it up and put it in the trash. Little things make a big difference.”

The rain date for this year’s Clean to the Green is April 13.

In addition to community outreach events like the Clean to the Green, S&S maintains an active recycling program, promotes earth-friendly manufacturing and distributes products made with rapidly renewable resources.
