S.E.N. Information Report – Mesne Lea Community Primary School

The Kind of special educational needs for which provision is made at our school

  • Ours is an inclusive school that welcomes all who wish to attend whilst recognising that some children face barriers to attendance, participation and achievement – See S.E.N. Policy document for further details of the provision that we offer.

Identification and assessment of pupils with S.E.N

  • We use a range of assessment tools for pupils both to identify a SEN and to support those with S.E.N. Parents will be informed if the school has identified a S.E.N. and the child will be involved where appropriate in planning to meet their needs. The range of assessments we use are listed below
  • SPAG Test
  • Phonics Screening Test
  • Salford Sentence Reading Test
  • Dyslexia Screening Test
  • Schonell Spelling Test
  • Early Years Baseline Assessments

School evaluation of the effectiveness of its provision

  • The school evaluates the effectiveness of its provision for pupils with SEN through analysis of outcomes for children who have received interventions. We analyse trends over time and the closing of the gap between those children with SEN and those without. These judgements are further validated by external advisors such as Ofsted. (See Ofsted report 2014) and the Local authority. We also use parent and pupil interviews to effectively assess the quality of our provision.

Arrangements for assessing and reviewing the progress of pupils with S.E.N.

  • The school uses half termly reviews to assess the progress of pupils with SEN and annual reviews for those pupils with a statement or an Educational Health Care Plan. All parents are invited to a parent’s evening three times per year. We use the Local Authority Provision Mapping Tool to assess and review pupil progress

Support available for improving the emotional and social development of pupils

  • The school employs a full time learning mentor part of whose role is to support children in the development of social and emotional skills
  • We provide special assemblies which deliver SEAL activities and emotional and social learning and development is interwoven into all aspects of the curriculum. .
  • We deliver small group activities which encourage social skills
