RYA SOUTH EASTYOUTH TRAINING FUND
PERFORMANCE AND COACHING BURSARY AWARDS - 2016
The RYA SE Youth Training Fund Charity (the YTF) has been established for many years and is well known for its provision of dinghy fleets to support the sail training of young people in Kent and Sussex. The demand for the fleets is diminishing as Clubs become more self-sufficient and the Trustees have decided to supplement the provision of dinghies with ‘Youth Bursaries’ to encourage young sailors in the form of:
‘Performance bursaries’ to promising young sailors up to the age of 14 on Dec. 31st2016.(ie dob on/after 1/1/02)
Applicants should have demonstrated potential by way of achievements at events such as the Youth or NSSA Nationals, RYA ranking events(and squads) or by selection for teams representing GBR at international level
and
‘Coaching Bursaries’for young sailors up to the age of 23 on Dec 31st 2016.(ie dob on/after 1/1/93). The award provides the recipientswith a place on a RYARace Coach Level 2 course (RCL2).Applicants should have shown the capability and enthusiasm to contribute to the sport of sailing in terms of support to their fellow sailors.
The awards are intended to provide modest financial assistance to the sailors’ on-going participation in such events or coaching activities or their attendance at national programmes in furtherance of the development of their talent. The recipients are expected to ‘return’ the award benefit by contributing to the development of youth sailing in their County, Club or Association by supporting training or coaching events. The number of the awards is limited and will be determined by the trustees of the YTF.
For 2016 the trustees have decided to make available:
Up to 6 performance awards of £200 each for 2 nominations through each of KSSA, WSSYSA and ESCSF*(see below) representing Kent, West Sussex and East Sussex respectively
and
Up to 8 Coaching Bursaries across the Region - Kent and W and E Sussex - to cover the cost of a RYA RCL2 course with nominations though the bodies as below.
Modest assistance may be available to cover attendance in addition at the trustees’ discretion.
It is expected that coaches would have demonstrated their competitive sailing prowess and interest in and commitment to training and coaching in some way to justify their application.
NB Applicants will also need to meet the RCL2 course acceptance criteria - see:
In both cases – Performance and Coaching awards - candidates should indicate how they will provide support to their local Clubs or Associations in subsequent years in order to encourage their peers and junior colleagues.
The nominations should be made on page 2 of this form and should be submitted to the Youth Bursary Co-ordinatorof the respective associations* of KSSA, WSSYSA and ESCSFwho will handle nominations from Kent, West and East Sussex respectively as per the email addresses below.Applications may be made throughout the year but the closing date for applications is Friday October 8th, 2016.
The trustees will normally make the awards soon after the closing date but may make awards during the sailing season or to re-allocate awards amongst the County Associations if they feel that to be appropriate at their discretion. They also reserve the right not to make awards if they so decide.
