Rules Governing Use of the Management Systems Registration Logos of Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI)

1.Foreword

These Rules are established to illustrate patterns of BSMI registration logos in the field of management systems certification (ISO 9001/ISO 14001/ISO 27001/OHSAS 18001/ISO 22000/TOSHMS/ISO 14064-1/ISO 28000/ISO 50001) and to specify conditions of use of these logos so as to protect the rights and interests of registered organizations, purchasers and consumers.

2.Patterns of the BSMI Registration Logos for Management Systems Certification

The standard patterns of the BSMI registration logos for individual management system certification are shown in the appendix. If the registration logos are to be used in English documents, the four Chinese characters may be omitted.

3.The BSMI Registration Logos

3.1When using a BSMI registration logo, registered organizations shall place the first seven letters of the certificate number directly below the logo. (There are nine or ten letters on the TOSHMS certificate and eleven letters on the GHG verification statement.) If the certificate number is not identified, the name of registered organization shall be placed next to the logo instead.

3.2The Standard Color of BSMI Registration Logos: For ISO 9001/ISO 27001/ISO 22000/ISO 28000, the standard color is red (PANTONE 179C/print color process: M 100 + Y 100) or carbon (black) if the standard color is not used. For ISO 14001/ISO 14064-1/OHSAS 18001/TOSHMS/ISO 50001, the standard color is green (PANTONE 334C/print color process: C 100 + Y 100) or carbon (black) if the standard color is not used.

3.3If the BSMI registration logos are reduced or enlarged, the relative proportions must be maintained. When the dimensions are reduced, legibility of the logo, certificate number or text must be ensured.

4.Scope of Use of BSMI Registration Logos

4.1A registered organization may use the BSMI registration logos in accordance with the information listed in the BSMI certificate and appendix (name and address of the certified organization and registration scope) within the validity term of the certificate.

4.2A registered organization may use the BSMI registration logos in printed format, electronic media or any other means on their envelops, letters, brochures, advertisements, product catalogues, name cards and other propaganda materials.

4.3 When an organization passes ISO 14064-1verification of the BSMI to use the BSMI registration logos, the organization shall statement the GHG reporting period covered.

5.Conditions of Use of the BSMI Registration Logos

5.1 A registered organization shall observe the following conditions when using the BSMI registration logos:

5.1.1 The BSMI registration logos shall not be used on the body or packages of products including laboratory test, calibration or inspection reports. However, a text description of the registration status on the outside packages for purpose of transportation, instead of that for final users, is allowed. (e.g. “The quality management system of our organization was registered by the BSMI and complies with the requirements of ISO 9001.”)

5.1.2 The BSMI registration logos shall not be used in any interpretation relating to products or services.

5.1.3 Where the registration scope of a registered organization only covers part of its products/service, the use of BSMI registration logo on its brochures, advertisements, product catalogues and other propaganda documents should enable the differentiation of those covered in the registration scope and those not covered. For example, “The environmental management system of this organization is registered with the BSMI against ISO 14001” or “The GHG emission of this organization in 2009 is registered with the BSMI against ISO 14064-1.”

5.2 A registered organization shall not engage in any promotion activities that could mislead any third parties into certification of their products / services by the BSMI (e.g. This product is registered with the BSMI against ISO 9001/OHSAS 18001/ISO 22000/ISO 14064-1.) or that are illegal.

5.3 If the registration of a registered organization is revoked or rescinded by the BSMI or its registration scope is reduced by the BSMI, the registered organization shall take the following action:

5.3.1 To stop using the BSMI registration logos immediately or to stop using the logos and propaganda for the scope that is no longer valid

5.3.2 To erase or remove the application of BSMI registration logos or related description and propagandafrom places mentioned in Clauses 4.2, 5.1.1 and 5.1.3 immediately.

6.Infringement

If a registered organization does not use the BSMI registration logo in accordance with these Rules and does not take corrective action after having received notice from the BSMI, the BSMI shall process such violation on a case-by-case basis. The BSMI shall rescind the registration of registered organizations if the violation is serious.
