School Rules
Rules exist to help create an orderly and peaceful framework within which the main work of the school can go on with minimum interruption. They are there to help everyone, students as well as staff.
Classroom Rules
- Do as you are told by staff – the first time, every time
- Arrive on time and ready to work with all the equipment that you need.
- Line up outside the classroom (when asked);
- Make a quiet entry into the classroom, greeted by the teacher at the door;
- Wait quietly for your teacher’s instructions.
- Adhere to seating plan organised by the teacher;
- Have personal organisers out on the desk, with relevant equipment for the lesson;
- Do your work well without distracting others.
- Put your hand up and wait for permission to speak.
- Listen carefully when the teacher or other students are talking.
- Pack up and leave the classroom in an orderly manner when you are told to.
- At the end of the school day, ensure chairs are put up on the desks;
- In ICT classrooms log on to the system first, then sit quietly in your usual seats.
- Be polite and respect the feelings of others at all times.
Rules for Around School
- Remove outdoor clothing on entry to the building
- Do as you are told by all staff – the first time, every time.
- Be on time for lessons.
- Students must arrive in school with the correct uniform, worn properly at all times, as described in the P.O. When in uniform please remember you are representing everybody at AHS.
- Eat and drink in the right place, at the right time. No chewing gum allowed.
- Put all litter in the bins provided.
- Look after your property.
- Smoking on school premises is forbidden.
- You will not be allowed to leave lessons to go to the toilet unless it is an emergency. If you leave a lesson for any reason you must have a note in your P.O.
- Students must not leave the school premises during the school day (without permission.)
- The appearance of the school is the responsibility of all of us. No graffiti on books (including P.O.) furniture or walls.
- Do not run in the school building.
- There must be no buying or selling of any items on school premises.
- Students should leave school sensibly at the end of the day. If queueing for buses they should do so in an orderly fashion.
Prohibited items
These items are not allowed in school:
Alcohol, illegal substances, electronic games, cigarettes, lighters, matches, fireworks, aerosols, nail polish, chewing gum, tippex, skateboards, roller skates or “heelies”.
We discourage mobile phones being brought into school. The school has no insurance for personal items. If they are seen or disrupt learning, they will be confiscated. MP3 players can only be used outside of lesson time at break/lunch but not when moving around the building. If they are seen or disrupt learning in lessons, they will be confiscated. Any other items may be prohibited at the discretion of staff if they pose a risk to the health and safety of staff or students, or if they disturb the smooth running of the school. Parent/carers should collect confiscated items at the earliest opportunity the items will not be passed back to students.
