RUBY DEMORET MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Ruby Demoret established the Demoret Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of her mother, Flora Butterfield Demoret, and her children. One or more of the children of Flora Butterfield Demoret have lived in the Montrose, Colorado area since 1906 when Edwin Demoret, at the age of sixteen, first came to the Montrose area where he was to spend the rest of his life and carry on ranching operations in Montrose and Gunnison counties. The scholarship has been awarded since 1982.

DESCRIPTION & ELIGIBILITY:

  1. Applicants must be residents and current graduating seniors at schools in Montrose or Gunnison counties of Colorado.
  2. Applicants must have completed not less than three grades in attendance at schools in Montrose or Gunnison counties.
  3. Need Financial assistance in the payment of expenses to be incurred in the course of any full-time course of study in any public or private training facility.
  4. This is a four-year renewable scholarship.

ATTACHMENTS:(In addition to those required by the Common Online Application)

  1. Proof of Acceptance to an accredited 4-yr college or university
  2. ESSAY: Please respond to this quote and explain how it pertains to you: “Applicants must know what they want to do, be sincere in their desire and honestly expending efforts to achieve it”.(no more than one page)

Applications must be submitted by April 12

Note: This form has been created by Chalk Schools: digital forms for k12 education and is accessible through the Montrose High School homepage. Counselors, if your students have trouble accessing the site (see directions below) or creating an account, you may call the Chalk Help line or you may contact the MHS Scholarship Counselor or Registrar for assistance. There also is a link on the MHS site to download a pdf form of the application if you cannot access it online. This form has been revised from last year; please do not use the MHS Common Application that was sent to you last year.

Accessing Common App for first time:

  1. Go to the MHS homepage: mhs.mcsd.org
  2. Click on “Counseling Center”
  3. Click on “Scholarship & Financial Aid”
  4. Scroll down to “Common Scholarship Application”
  5. Read through all of the directions and follow the steps

Completing the Form:

  1. Students do not have to complete the form in one session – the program will save the work in progress.
  2. The Common App requires 5 attachments: Transcript, Resume’, 1 page FAFSA Sars report, 1 letter of recommendation from school personnel + 1 from a non-school related person; all of these must be downloaded to the application form before it is complete.
  3. In addition, each scholarship may have additional attachments that need to be downloaded w/the application (ex. Essay to address specific criteria)
  4. Your school may offer to scan their attachments if the student cannot do this. If possible, scan all of the attachments at one time as 1 pdf. If not, the program will load each one separately.
