Royalty Appears Again at Melbourne's Hotel Windsor;

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge return to Windsor to Support

Donations for Royal Children's Hospital

Melbourne’s Windsor Hotel is again celebrating its namesake, the UK’s Royal Windsor family, following the birth of a daughter to the Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince William and The Duchess, with baby bassinet, are once again making an exclusive appearance to greet guests – or at least the life-size cardboard cut-outs of Their Royal Highnesses are.

And the hotel is asking visitors to consider bringing in presents for children, which the Windsor will deliver to the Royal Children's Hospital. In accordance with Hospital policy, a gift should be brand new, still in the manufacturers’ packaging and not gift-wrapped, and meet Australian Safety Standards.

The cut-outs first appeared at the Windsor to celebrate the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. They proved so popular that visitors queued in the hotel’s lobby for a photo and at one point the cut-outs mysteriously disappeared for a few days only to be returned just before the wedding. They reappeared in July 2013, following the birth of His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.

So for a rare opportunity to hob-nob it with Royalty, even if it is of the cardboard kind, and to support the Royal Children's Hospital visit the hotel bearing a children's gift between May 3 and 17.

“We think is this is a fun way to mark the arrival of the second child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and, very importantly, to the young patients at the Royal Children’s Hospital,” Windsor Hotel CEO David Perry said.

It might also be the perfect time to enjoy the Windsor's renowned traditional afternoon tea. Served on a three-tiered silver stand, it features ribbon sandwiches, the hotel’s famous scones with double cream and Windsor jams, and a selection of cakes and pastries as well as a glass of sparkling wine and a choice of 12 exclusive teas. The Hotel Windsor celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2013. Built in 1883, the 180-room hotel pre-dates the Savoy in London, which was built in 1889, the Waldorf Astoria in New York which dates back to 1893, and the Ritz Paris which opened in 1898.
