Spitalfields, Dennis Severs House and Warner Textile Archive, Braintree

We will start in Spitalfields, the famous Huguenot silk weavers’ area of London. There will then be an opportunity to visit the very unusual Dennis Severs house – see notes on visit page. We will then walk around the area and see some of the weavers’ houses before heading back to Liverpool Street Station where we will take the train to Braintree, enjoying a packed lunch on the way. At Braintree we will go for a 3 ½ hour visit to the famous textile archive comprising an introductory talk, a chance to look around the archives, to see the exhibition and shop and tea and cakes before we return to central London. (As this is a slightly more expensive trip than some, it is possible to visit Spitalfields without the Dennis Severs house, but if you are not from London I highly recommend it for its difference.
