RULE 22 CLOSED CHAMPIONSHIPS RULES
22CLOSED CHAMPIONSHIPS
22.1The Association will hold annually a Closed Championships.
22.2.1The Executive Committee shall appoint a Referee for the Championships at an early date.
22.2.2The decision of the Referee shall be final on all questions of law, interpretation of Rule, and in respect of dress, discipline and any dispute on the day.
22.3.1Entries may be accepted from any person who, in the current season, is a bona fide affiliated member of the Association. Any such person who is not registered to play in a League affiliated to the Association must be a Player Member of English Table Tennis Association Limited, and a supplemental fee as determined each year by the Executive Committee shall be payable in addition to any entry fee. For a graded event entries may not be accepted from anyone (i) who has represented the Association in the current season or (ii) is a player registered in the top division of an affiliated league or (iii) is not a registered player of an affiliated league.
22.3.2Where an age limit is applicable, ‘under a specified age’ shall relate to the age on 31 December during the current playing season, and ‘specified age or over’ shall relate to the age on 1 January during the current playing season.
22.4Events and Entry Fees shall be determined each year by the Executive Committee. Fees will not be refunded to any competitor who withdraws after the draw has taken place.
22.5.1The closing date will be stated on the entry form and any entries received after that date will not be accepted.
22.5.2If it should be necessary to restrict entries in any event this will be done on the basis of last in first out.
22.6Entries shall be made out on the official entry form supplied to all Club Secretaries or on plain paper giving the same information, and shall be accompanied by the appropriate fee.
22.7All events will be timed and in order that competitors may be informed in advance of the reporting times of their first match in each event, a stamped addressed envelope shall be sent with each entry form.
22.8There may be seeds in any event as determined by the Executive Committee.
22.9On arrival all players must report to Control and should not leave the building without obtaining permission of the Referee.
22.10Every competitor may be required to umpire one match per event entered. After losing, a player should report to Control without delay to collect the scorecard and ball.
22.11All players will be required to play on the allotted table and on being called must go to that table and begin play without delay.
22.12Any player not ready to play when called may be scratched.
22.13Knocking up on vacant tables may be allowed at the discretion of the Referee but only by two players at any time on any one table.
22.14.All matches will be best of five games (11 up).
22.15.Substitutions may be allowed in doubles events only, in the absence of one of a pair, at the discretion of the Referee. Requests will not be considered in respect of any player who has not made a valid entry for the event.
22.16Except as provided in 22.15 the draw once completed will not be altered except to correct genuine misunderstandings or errors unless exceptionally the draw becomes unbalanced and the Organising Committee and the Referee think an alteration is desirable in the interests of the tournament.
22.17.1The winner of an Association cup or trophy must return it without any further request, in a clean condition, to the Trophy Secretary if there is one or to the General Secretary if not, not later than the closing date for the next Closed Championships or twelve months after it is won whichever date is the earlier.
22.17.2Failure to do so will result in an automatic fine of £10.
22.17.3Acceptance of a cup or trophy implies a liability as to its proper safeguard and care and anyone responsible for any damage or loss shall be liable for the cost of any repair or replacement.
22.18When playing (including knocking up) players are expected to wear Table Tennis dress and the standard of dress must satisfy the Referee. In particular jeans and denim or similar clothing will not be allowed. The main colour of a shirt, skirt, or shorts, other than sleeves or collar of a shirt shall be clearly different from that of the ball in use. Any markings or trimming on the front or side of a playing garment and any objects such as jewellery worn by a player, shall not be so conspicuous or brightly reflecting as to unsight an opponent.
22.19.1In a group competition, all members of the group shall compete against each other and the positions in the group shall be determined primarily by the number of matches won. If a member of a group should fail to complete any match the results of all matches in which that member took part shall be discounted.
22.19.2If two or more members of the group have won the same number of matches their relative positions shall be determined only by the results of matches between them, by considering successively the ratios of wins to losses first in matches then games then points, as far as is necessary to resolve the order.
22.19.3If at any step in the calculations the positions of one or more members of the group have been determined while the others are still equal, the results of matches in which those members took part shall be excluded from any further calculations needed to resolve the equalities in accordance with the procedure of 22.19.1 and 22.19.2.
