2014/15 ROUND 3....3/4 VICTORIES VS LANE COVE DAY 2….

First Grade

After our first grade had an amazing win by 1 RUN ON DAY 1 …121 vs 120 it was all action on day 2 in chase of the outright. Penno batted 39 overs to post all out for 157 after being 2-128! The stars were N Azzimi 52; Marcus Levitt 29 and Naibkhil 26.When the lightening and heavy rain hit mid afternoon the Covies were 1-8 and game over. A great effort by the boys in winning on first innings. So now to lift the work ethic and train the house down this week AT RUDDOCK OVAL OR MINCHINBURY.

Second Grade

The Penno Seconds lost a close contest at headquarters vs Lane Cove ..219 vs 207.In the end the failure of our guys to bat more than 57 overs compared to the opposition with 69 overs and we allowed 26 extras whereas the Covies allowed 18 proved crucial. This is a discipline thing and only hard work at practice can cure these defects.

Still a great effort by our boys who never gave up and showed true fighting Pumas spirit.

DEFINITELY See you ALL OF YOU AT PRACTICE NEXT WEDNESDAY FROM 5 PM AT RUDDOCK NETS OR AT MINCHINBURY NETS AT 3PM ON FRIDAYS!!!

Third Grade

Third grade followed up their amazing win on the first innings on day 1 with an easy OUTRIGHT VICTORY ON DAY 2. LANE COVE were 34 behind on the first innings but were no match for a devastating spell of fast swing bowling from Chris Thorndyke who captured 6-18 off 8 overs with 2 maidens. Mickey Khan got 2-25 and we were chasing 53 to win. Armed with only 9 men on day 2 enter 4s hero Matt Davoren who smashed 36 n.o. and game over…an outright win by 7 wickets and 10 beautiful competition points.

TO CONTINUE WINNING … See you ALL OF YOU AT PRACTICE NEXT WEDNESDAY FROM 5 PM AT RUDDOCK NETS!!!

Fourth Grade

The mighty fourth grade continued on their winning way with an easy but at times uncomfortable first innings vs LANE COVE at Ern Holmes on day 2. Having posted 8-318 (dec) on day 1 the Covies were soon 3-53 and in trouble with Lachlan Reynolds taking all 3 wickets . However 2 rain/thunderstorm/

lightening interruptions and some stubborn resistance from the middle/lower order opposition batsmen saw the game protracted until 15 yr old Pras Seneviratne dismissed their key batsman caught behind. Eventually Penno won by bowling the opposition out for 181 in 48 overs. Cameron Price had a remarkable game with 3 catches, a stumping and a run out!

However the game will be long remembered for the astonishing innings of 155 n.o. from Long Fogg our exciting 16 yr old left handed batsmen.

We will ALL be at practice this week to hone our catching and bowling.

PUMA CLASSICS (over 50s)

Pennant Hills Pumas 10/116 off 39.3 overs (13.8 points) were defeated by Lane Cove 8/127 off 40 overs(36.35 points)at Pennant Hills No 1 ground on 2 Nov 14 on a bright sunny day with temperatures in the mid 20s.

Lane Cove won the toss and batted with top scorers Beattie 30 No, Whitehead 25 and Holmes 13 No. Brian Breakspear (9-0-0-30) and Chas Viner (9-2-0-21) put the pressure on the openers and runs came slowly. The pressure mounted with 3 batsmen being run out and 1 stumped. Kim Perry (5-0-1-14) and Gerry Gore (4-0-0-19) maintained the pressure until Stuart Clark (7-3-3-4) came into the attack and broke the middle of the innings. Charles Adonis (4-1-1-11) chipped in along with some excellent fielding. Pumas dropped 2 catches which were off the top scorers. Holding Lane Cove to 127 off 40 overs was a good effort from the bowlers backed by some good ground fielding.

Lane Cove bowled very tightly at the start and Pumas became bogged down but saw off the good opening attack. Stuart Clark retired at 30 and Brian Breakspear 12 put on 40 odd before Stuart retired. Chas Viner (8), Charles Adonis (10) and Phil Silver (24) put on quick runs to steady the ship but 2 run outs saw Pumas 4/97 at 31 overs. Pumas needed 31 off 9 overs to win. Mahesh Ranasinghe (14) put on some quick runs with Pumas now 6/116 at 36 overs. Lane Cove's Pym struck some form and picked up a hat trick leaving Pumas 8/116 with 3 overs remaining. With 12 to get off 2 overs it was going down to the wire. Andrew Wright was bowled for a duck with the score still on 116. It was left to David Mudge and retiree Stuart Clark to get the 12 runs off 2 overs. Mudge tried valiantly to hit Pym but it was a maiden over. Lane Cove lined the boundary and Stuart Clark tried to hit the necessary runs in sixes but was bowled. Unbelievably Pumas had lost 5 wickets for no runs going from 5/116 to all out for 116, leaving them 12 runs short. Certainly a thriller with 5 run outs for both teams and excellent bowling for both teams. Lane Cove's Pym (8-2-3-23 including a hat trick), Beattie (7.3-4-3-8), Frankish (6-1-1-18) and Whitehead (9-2-0-18) made scoring very difficult. Pumas running between wickets and failure to turn over the strike proved to be decisive in the end, plus 2 key dropped catches, simple catches. Both teams enjoyed a beer after the game. Umpire Daniel Burton did an excellent job in the middle

Our new Classics Pumas team have their next game on Sunday 16th November 2014 vs PARRAMATTA AT PENNANT HILLS OVAL.

OUR JUNIOR PUMAS……

U/11s PUMAS.
U11 are being challenged, for the first time this season, by CH Green. Both are 3 wickets down, but CH Green have the edge being 24 runs ahead after the first 25 Over split.

U/13s PUMAS………

Penno U13 are up against the very strong Kenthurst team this round.
Penno won the toss and sent Kenthurst in, on what was going to be a hot
day in the field as the day progressed.
The Penno boys did well to keep the normally big hitting Kenthurst to 94
runs from their first 28 Overs. Whilst all the boys bowled well, the
honours this week go to Finley, conceding only 4 runs from his 3 overs,
including 2 maidens.
With the bat Max and Finley laid a good foundation as openers. Joshua
Buckley came in at #3 and kept the score moving along, contributing a
handy 11 runs. This allowed Charles to again go after the bowlers.
Charles knocked up 33 runs from 53 ball, including six 4's. At the end
of the first 28 Overs Penno are 4 wickets down for 100 runs. A good
platform to build on next week.
U/16s PUMAS…..

U16 are in a commanding position having set Normo a target of 270.
