ROYAL ARTILLERY REGIMENTAL HOCKEY COMPETITION 16-17 Nov 16

Introduction

1.  General. The RAHC Inter Regimental Hockey Competition (Gillette Cup and Chauhan Plate) will take place at Larkhill 16-17 Nov 16.

2.  Ethos. This competition is designed to develop the ‘sport for all’ policy. Whilst the Regiments sporting gladiators are more than welcome, units are still requested to send a team if their ‘stars’ are unavailable, regardless of the level of players available.

3.  AGM. The RAHC will take the opportunity to hold the AGM during the Competition, whilst everyone is gathered in one place. Details and agenda will be published nearer the time. It is hoped to follow this with a social event within Larkhill camp where players can mix within a hockey club atmosphere.

4.  Location. The matches will be played at the Larkhill Astroturf.

5.  Timings. Matches will begin 0900 Wed 16, and be complete by 1730 Thu 17 Sep 16. Once the window for applications has closed the draw will be made, matches will then be timetabled taking consideration where possible for the distances that some teams may have to travel.

Format

6.  The following competition criteria will be followed:

a.  It will be an 11 a-side game (16 Per Squad). Players who are not registered on the first day are not permitted to play on the second day.

b.  There will be a minimum of one female playing in each team. If this cannot be achieved then the respective team manager is to inform me in advance.

c.  Squads can be made up of any cap badge serving in the Unit. Soldiers on ERE may play for their parent Unit unless posted to 14 Regt RA. All unattached players from outside of regiments (i.e. ERE, Staff jobs etc.) are to be cleared to play for a regiment by the undersigned. Players not currently affiliated to a Unit should aim to play for their nearest regt. Applications to use such players must be received by me NLT Mon 19 Sep 16.

d.  Each game will be played over 15 mins one way. Semi-final and final matches may be increased in length if timetabling permits. This is to ensure that the tournament can be completed within two days as all units are very busy.

e.  FIH hockey rules will be used throughout.

f.  The format of the day will be determined by the number of teams taking part. It is envisaged that competition will take the form of either mini-leagues followed by final positional play offs or a ‘round robin’ again with positional play offs – this will be adjusted in accordance with the number of teams taking part.

g.  No combined Regiment teams are allowed except in extreme circumstances. Please inform me if you wish to combine your team with another unit. If the result would otherwise be non-participation then this option may be considered. The aim of this competition is to encourage new players to enjoy the sport and this option should be avoided.

12.  Entry Fee. Regts are requested to pay an entry fee of £30 per team to help towards the cost of trophies and officials.

13.  Accommodation. Units are requested to arrange their own accommodation through CABS (01252 354305).

14.  Pitch booking. SSgt is to book the Larkhill astro turf for this competition NLT 5 Aug 16.

POC

15.  The following POC’s are to be used for the competition:

Maj Ed Taylor 07870 674741

Lt Mousley 94322 5938

SSgt Jessup 94342 5572

Summary

15. The Gillette Cup and Chuahan Plate present an excellent opportunity for all levels of hockey players to participate in an Inter Regimental Competition. The RAHC continues to move from strength to strength and looks forward to hosting this competition on behalf of all our units. We are currently examining ways at which a mixed event can count towards the RA Victor Ludorum and hope that this event will be included. However, with the current rate of commitments it would not be possible for units to raise separate male and female teams. The indoor competition later on in the season will definitely be used towards the VL as well.
