Objectives

Fully Funded DawesScholarships are awarded to medical or dental graduates eligible for registration in South Australia, or to appropriately qualified science graduates or health professionals, for the purpose of receiving training in research methods leading to a higher degree in the University of Adelaide or University of South Australia.

Fully funded Dawes Scholarships include two funding components; the scholarship (being the equivalent funding to the current Australian Postgraduate Award) plus a ‘Top-up’ component ($5,000 per annum).

Top-upDawes Scholarships are awarded to medical or dental graduates eligible for registration in South Australia, or to appropriately qualified science graduates or health professionals, for the purpose of receiving training in research methods leading to a higher degree in the University of Adelaide or University of South Australia. Applicants for Australian Postgraduate Awards (APAs) are encouraged to apply for a Dawes Top-up Scholarship of $5,000 per annum to supplement a successful APA. A certain number of scholarships are reserved for medical graduates.

‘Top-up’ scholarships ($5,000 per annum) are awarded to supplement a successfully awarded APA (Australian Postgraduate Award).

Eligibility

Applicants must be Australian citizens or have permanent resident status and be currently residing in Australia.

The research study on which the training is based shall be performed within the Royal Adelaide Hospital, SA Pathology, the Hanson Institute Building, or associated academic departments on the RAH Campus.

In order for adequate supervision to be provided, the principal supervisor shall (except in special circumstances) be a member of the staff of the Royal Adelaide Hospital, SA Pathology, the University of Adelaide, or University of South Australia who has a substantial commitment to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and there must be a bonafide affiliation with a contributor to the RAH ROPP SPF.

Attention is also drawn to the regulations of the University of Adelaide and University of South Australia, which govern studies for higher degrees. If the principal supervisor does not hold an appointment allowing the supervision of graduate students then it will be necessary to arrange for a second supervisor (“internal supervisor”) within the appropriate University department.
