PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE SERVICES

To plan, lead and implement High level coaching strategies to ensure world leading performances by the RNZ Elite Mens Sweep athletes.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

National Teams

  • To provide Leadership and Coaching to both the Mens Sweep coaches and the athletes in National squads.
  • To plan and monitor rowing programmes in conjunction with the HP team
  • To coach squad members during team and individual competitions
  • To organise squads for training camps and regattas
  • To assist the National Selectors in selecting the National Mens Sweep crews
  • To personally coach such crews as agreed with the National Selection Panel and High Performance Manager.
  • Develop rowers capable of representing NZ with distinction (medal) at international level
  • To provide technical, tactical and squad coaching to Rowing NZ
  • To help ensure the effective and co-ordinated use of sport science by the Men’s Sweep squad members and coaches.
  • To support the development of the sport science programme in conjunction with the High Performance Manager
  • To educate rowers and coaches regarding the objectives, programmes and culture of the High Performance programme
  • To accompany Rowing NZ squads to international fixtures and training opportunities
  • To prepare and evaluate long and short term competition plans and contribute to the High Performance Strategy through to the 2016 and 2020 Olympics.
  • To work in a coordinated way with the lead coaches within the RNZ HP programme

Long term rower and coach development

  • To assist with the updating of the High Performance Coaching Plan and all plans relating to coach development and education
  • To help mentor and develop Rowing NZ coaches
  • Contribute to and monitor the athlete IPP’s
  • Present new initiatives to drive the athlete and coach programme forward

Performance Targets

  • High levels of athlete satisfaction with the coach’s programming and coaching
  • Satisfaction from Men’s Sweep coaches with the levels of communication provided by the lead coach
  • Attitudes and commitment of coaches and athletes is in keeping with expectations as outlined in the RNZ HP Strategic Plan.
  • 2 Medals from the Mens Sweep program at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games
  • Consistent medal and A final performances at world championships in line with the Rowing NZ High Performance Plan 2013 - 2016

General

  • Maintain RNZ database on the athletes performance both on and off the water
  • Continually up skill and research

  • An international level rowing coach with appropriate qualifications where applicable.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to coach medal winning crews in recognised elite international competitions.
  • Has proven leadership skills.
