National Wellness Institute:

I recently became a dues paying member for the National Wellness Institute. I chose this membership because I felt it was one mostly related to me and especially because we have the NWI here at Rowan. It was familiar. Their main goal is to promote optimal health and wellness in individuals and communities which is something I feel I do every day being an athlete, Get FIT volunteer, as well as being a Strength and Conditioning intern here for my second year at Rowan. I also felt more towards this membership rather than others especially after taking Dr. Spencer’s class because she educated us all more on the National Wellness Institute and I wanted to learn more, so I became a member.

Rowan University Varsity Volleyball Team: (Out of Season Currently)

Being apart of this team has given me more than I ever thought it would. I came into Rowan not knowing what to expect and from day one, playing on a sports team, especially this one has given me the skills ill need for the rest of my life. It has given me things like – time management skills, work ethic, motivation/perseverance, as well as teaching myself that it is okay to be down; what matters is how you pick yourself back up again. This team has given me the foundation I will need to carry on with the rest of my major here at rowan, as well as taught me life lessons ill carry with me for the rest of my life.

Get Fit Volunteer:

I was a Get Fit volunteer two times. Each time, I made such a connection with whomever I was working with. It is such an eye opening and humbling experience, especially when working with adults or the young adults the same age as me. They are all incredible people and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing one of the Get FIT clients succeeding as well as enjoying themselves while doing what we have shown them. This will greatly help me in my future as a nurse because I will be working with all populations and this program has given me patience and understanding; which is something I struggled with in the past.

I also served as a Get FIT representative for Rowan. Dr. Spencer chose 5 of her best Get Fit volunteers/Managers and took us to a conference with the local organization who stated Get Fit and it was an incredible experience. I got the opportunity there to network as well as meet some students from a local public grade school who were currently in the program. This taught me leadership, networking skills, and team work skills because we did a lot of activities involving a team.
