Route Description for the ‘Yeovil Country Park River Walk’.
START: Notice board opposite the Goldenstones car park.
- Facing the notice board, turn right and follow the path.
- Take the first tarmac path leading left and walk up the hill.
- On your left, notice the Garden of Remembrance.
- You will enter some woodland at the top of this path. Continue straight on.
- On your left, notice the numerous badger dens dotted along the bank.
- You will soon reach a fork in the path with some steps bearing to the left. Continue along the main path, which bears right.
- Keep your eyes peeled for different species of bird such as Jay’s, Chaffinch’s and the green woodpecker.
- At the end of this path, you will meet another fork. Turn left downhill, past a notice board.
- At the end of this path you will reach a ford. Take the main path leading right, which continues uphill.
- Along this stretch, there have been some sightings of Kingfisher’s. Although sightings are rare, keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of their electric blue feathers.
- Along this path, there is a track bearing left. Follow this track downhill and over the bridge.
- Once over the bridge, turn left and continue down this path towards the stone archway.
- Go through the stone archway and follow the main footpath on the right hand side of the river.
- Follow this path, go through the kissing gate and turn left.
- At the end of this path, you’ll reach a gate.
- On the other side of this gate:
- Turn left through the next gate if you DO NOT have a dog. Follow the path around the playground and take the path leading left through the ‘Nature Area’. At the end, go though the gate and turn right.
- Bear right, skirting around the playground if you DO have a dog. Go through the car park, past the cattle shed, downhill and then turn left along the concrete path. Follow on towards the bridge.
- Follow the main concrete path back to Goldenstones main car park and back to the notice board.
