What is RYPEN? What does RYPEN do?

RYPEN is the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment. RYPEN is a weekend camp held once each year.

RYPEN targets young people aged 14 to 17. It is a personal development program fostering leadership skills through small groups. Skills called upon include communicating ideas, scenario problem solving and social experiences that will assist participants in forming their own robust values and moral standards.

Who can go to the RYPEN camp? Anyone aged between 14years to 17.

It is not necessarily for top students, school representatives or the obvious young leaders. The ideal candidate is the teenager who will benefit from confidence building, encouragement, a guiding hand or simply the chance to learn more about their own capabilities.

How is the RYPEN camp organised and conducted?

Approximately 30–40 students participate in each camp. They are divided into groups of 6 to 8 with two leaders (aged18-30) being responsible for each group. Selected Rotarians attend the camp to provide mentorship for all and ensure quality delivery of the program. The 9600 District RYPEN committee is composed of Rotarians who are responsible for compiling and reviewing the program. All RYPEN leaders hold a current Blue Card that is issued by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian.

How do you obtain a place to attend the Camp?

Rotary Clubs in the district are invited to sponsor students and leaders. The cost to sponsor a student is $230 and a leader, $250. A list of suitable Rotary Clubs can be found by visiting Rotary District 9600 home page - www.rotary9600.org – click on Our Clubs link, and then click on Clubs.
