Rotary Club of Prince George - New Member Induction

Pre- Mentorship Process

The Rotarian that introduces the prospective Rotarian as a guest meets with the prospective member to review the following:

  • The costs of being a Rotarian : weekly lunches, annual dues, events, donations and the Rotary Foundation
  • The Four Way Test
  • The commitment to service above self and the ability to give of time for various events and fundraisers
  • The ability to join a Rotary Committee. A discussion about the types of Committee’s that are available for consideration

Prior to the prospective member submitting a membership application the Rotarian who brings a prospect to the club, commences the process as defined on the New Member Checklist.

The Induction and Mentorship Process

Once the new Rotarian has been inducted into Rotary a series of people will be involved in guiding them through the orientation period. A champion mentor will be responsible for coordinating the various meetings and of the initial contact.

The Mentor will meet with the new Rotarian within the first week to answer any questions they may have from the pre-induction process.

The Mentor will sit with the new member at the Club meetings for a month and introduce the new Rotarian to other members. This may vary depending on the new member’s community involvement
The Mentor will contact the Committee Chair to meet with the new Rotarian to discuss the various committee’s and to determine where they would live to serve
Arrange for a tour of the Website (Website champions need to be defined)
Review the financial requirements
Rotary History and Structure (Rotarians need to be assigned this role)
Discuss attendance requirements and how the mechanisms for make-ups; committee’s, training events, webinars, attending other club meetings
Arrange for the new member to sit at the table with the Sargent At Arms, selling tickets and becoming familiar with membership (within the first month)
Present an interest form to the new member and discuss possible committees that match the new member’s interests
Invite and encourage the new member to attend special club functions and events with their spouse or significant other. The Mentor sit with the new member at these special club functions to help them integrate into the social fabric of the club
Accompany the new member to their first make-up (within a month of the missed club meeting)
The Mentor touches base with the Mentee at one, three, six and twelve months to help them with integration or problems they may have encountered
