The Peace

May the peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

The Offertory Hymn # 505Be Thou My Vision

Our Thanks as we offer our gifts to God:

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below;

Praise him above, ye heav'nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen!

The Eucharistic Prayer (we stand)

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is indeed right and good that we should give you thanks, praise and glory, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. And so with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we lift our voices and join in their unending hymn of praise:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

(we kneel or sit)

Holy God, source of life and goodness, all creation rightly gives you praise…

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Recalling his death, proclaiming his resurrection, and looking for his coming again in glory, we offer you, Father, this bread and this cup. Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts, that all who eat and drink at this table may be one body and one holy people, a living sacrifice in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, almighty Father, now and forever. Amen.

Our Father…

We break this bread, … to share in the body of Christ.

We, being many, are one body, for we all share in the one bread.

O Lamb of God, who takest away the sin of the world: Have mercy upon us (repeat).

O Lamb of God, who takest away the sin of the world: Grant us thy peace.

Holy Communion

All people are most welcome to come forward to receive God’s Blessing. Those baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are invited to receive His gift to His people: Holy Communion. Those who are not baptized are invited to cross their arms over their chests and be reminded of our Lord’s unaccountable love for all people, regardless of their situation. Do know how welcome you are to join us.

#73 One Bread, One Bod, One Lord of All#74 For the Bread Which You Have Broken

Father of all, we give you thanks and praise, that when we were still far off you met us in your Son and brought us home. Dying and living, he declared your love, gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory. May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life; we who drink his cup bring life to others; we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world. Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us, so we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

The Final Blessing

May the peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and glory of God; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you and all those for whom you have prayed, this day and always. Amen.

The Blessing of Animals in honour of St. Francis of Assisi
Saint Frances, Patron of Animals
so loved the animals that we remember him as a friend and protector to them. Legends have left us with idyllic pictures of how beasts and birds were susceptible to the charm of St. Francis' gentle ways, how they entered companion with him and often felt protected by him. It is said birds listened so reverently to his sermon along the road that Francis chided himself for not having thought to preach to them before. He also found great delight and solace in simple things such as the rising sun or flowers, all aspects of nature. In his embrace of poverty and simplicity he was a beacon for others to emulate. The present Pope, Francis, has answered that call. As do we, this morning.

The Processional Hymn #355All Creatures of Our God

and King (vs 1, 2, 3 & 7)

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship

of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

And also with you.

We pause, in silence, and then begin in prayer, standing:

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Gloria in Excelsis (Found in Hymnal as # 679)

GLORY be to God on high, and in earth peace, good will towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty.

O Lord, the only-begotten Son, Jesu Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sin of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sin of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us.

For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

the Collect for St. Francis

Most high, omnipotent Lord, grant your people grace to renounce gladly the vanities of this world; that, following the way of blessed Francis, we may for love of you delight in your whole creation with perfectness of joy. O God, you have made us and all living things. You are even more wonderful than what you have made. We thank you for giving us these pets who bring us joy. As you take care of us, so also we ask your help that we might take care of those who trust us to look after them. By doing this, weshare in your own love for all creation. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

The First Reading: Genesis 1:24-31(p.1 in pew Bible)

Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, “Let Us make humanity in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created humanity in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

The Gradual Hymn: #423 How Great Thou Art

The Holy Gospel: Matthew 6:25-33(p.936in pew Bible) Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus said to those listening to Him, “If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.

“Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.”

The Gospel of Christ. PeoplePraise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

We confess our sin, and the sins of our society, in the misuse of God’s creation.

God our Father, we are sorry for the times when we have used your gifts carelessly, and acted ungratefully.Hear our prayer, and in your mercy: forgive us and help us.

We enjoy the fruits of the harvest, and the creatures of your earth, but sometimes forget that you have given them to us to nourish and care for, and not to exploit.

Father, in your mercy: forgive us and help us.

We belong to a people who are full and satisfied, but ignore the cry of the hungry and the needs of the earth.Father, in your mercy: forgive us and help us.

Too often we are thoughtless, and do not care enough for the world you have made and store up goods for ourselves alone, as if there were no God and no heaven.

Father, in your mercy: forgive us and help us that we might know your peace.

Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE PRAYERS

Let us give thanks to God our Father for all his gifts so freely bestowed upon us; for the beauty and wonder of your creation, in earth and sky and sea; We thank you, Lord.

For the richness of the mountains, plains and rivers; We thank you, Lord.

For all that is gracious in the lives of men and women; We thank you, Lord.

For all creatures that breathe, and move, and have life; We thank you, Lord.

For the songs of birds and the loveliness of flowers and trees; We thank you, Lord.

For the trust you have shown in giving into our care these, our pets; We thank you, Lord.

That each pet here may be treasured with care; We pray to you, Lord.

That we may love and honour all your works, O God; We pray to you, Lord.

That we may continue to grow in our grateful enjoyment of your abundant creation;

To the honour and glory of your name, now and forever, we pray to you, Lord. Amen.

THE BLESSING OF the animals

"N. (name of animal) may you be blessed in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. May you and N. (the name of the "owner") enjoy life together and find joy with the God who created you."

THE BLESSING PRAYER

Most high, Almighty Lord, our Creator, yours are the praise, the glory, the honour and all blessings! To you alone do all things belong. Be praised for giving us the animals, birds and fish which fill your world. May we think of you and thank you when we play with and care for these creatures who bring us such joy. Be praised for making us so happy to have our pets and to have them to play with. We ask you, Lord, that we may be good to your creatures always, that they might be happy also. O God, your world is wonderful. May we all come into your even greater world of the kingdom of heaven where we shall see even more wonderful things and where we shall live and love forever. This we ask to your eternal praise, and to our blessing. Amen.
