Scholarship Application Instructions

Submit the following to your school contact listed below no later than February 27, 2015:

  1. Completed Rotary Scholarship Application (or the same information on a separate page or pages)
  2. One written teacher recommendation
  3. An essay of less than 300 words on one page explaining why you should be considered for this Rotary scholarship(s). Please do not write more than a 300 word essay.
  4. Include a copy of your transcript (in a sealed envelope).

Submissions become the property of Rotary and will not be returned.

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

Second: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

Third: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

Fourth: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Scholarship Criteria for 2015

2015 Kirkland Rotary Scholarships

The Rotary Club of Kirkland, Washington will award several $1,000 scholarships to selected local students for their higher education at accredited institutions. Each scholarship type recognizes students for a different area of achievement but all are designed to support students with financial need and academic promise.

Incomplete or late submissions will be ineligible. Rotary Club members will select and interview the most promising applicants from each school. Students are encouraged to apply for as many scholarships for which they qualify using the application form. Students must attend an accredited art institute, technical college or other college or university.

Scholarship winners will be recognized by Kirkland Rotary at their meeting on Monday, April 27, 2015, 6:30 p.m. and at their school’s annual award ceremony if requested. Winners must request their scholarship checks prior to December 1, 2015. Scholarship checks will be issued directly to the college or university.

Application Deadline: February 27, 2015.

SeveralKirkland Rotary Scholarships will be awarded.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Have financial need
  • Have academic promise
  • Have a record of school or community service
  • Have promise of societal contribution
  • Currently a senior at International Community School, Juanita High School, Lake Washington High School or Lake Washington Technical Academy graduating in 2014
  • OR Currently enrolled at Lake WashingtonTechnicalCollege or CascadiaCommunity College

2)$1,000 Charles O. Morgan Communications Scholarship

This scholarship is named for a former publisher of the East Side Journal newspaper . One Charles O. Morgan Communications Scholarship may be awarded in 2015.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Plan a college major in Communications, i.e. Journalism, Theater Arts, English Literature or Public Relations & Advertising
  • Have financial need
  • Have academic promise
  • Have promise of societal contribution
