Job Description: Second Junior Clerk (Health)
Purpose of the post
To provide administrative, clerking and organisational support to thehealth department clerking team and assist the team in providing an efficient professional service to barristers and clients.
Reporting Relationships
The SecondJunior Clerk reports to the Business Development Director in the health department.

Key Responsibilities
- To answer the telephone in a professional manner and:
- direct calls to the appropriate person or take a message which includes the callers name and contact details;
- make a written record of all telephone calls handled;
- in liaison with senior clerks assist callers with case enquires and bookings for your team of barristers;
- enter diary bookings onto the diary and keep the relevant senior clerk informed of what and who is booked.
- To open briefs, instructions and other case documents and enter details onto the LEX fees and diary system in accordance with agreed procedures.
- To chase instructions and the delivery of briefsfor barristers in your team and record progress on the diary system on each case chased.
- Under the supervision of a senior clerk to agree brief fees for assigned counsel and note all fee discussions onthe case record.
- Under the supervision of a senior clerk tobill times on fee notes for work completed.
- On a daily basis to alert all barristers in your team to their diary commitments for the following day. Confirm on the diary that this has been done.
- To carry out general clerking duties including but not limited to :
- covering for other junior members of the clerking team when required
- assisting barristers to court with boxes of files
- photocopying, including photocopying of authorities and bundles of documents for court, and faxing of documents
- assisting with marketing and PR events
- recycling paper and other waste materials as appropriate.
- To attend team meetings as required to discuss initiatives and updates, receive work instructions and review team performance.
- To attend meetings and assist with supporting the whole staff team as directed.
- To observe confidentiality in relation to all casework and other matters in Chambers and to comply with Chambers procedures, all relevant regulations and all relevant sections of the Code of Conduct of the Bar of England and Wales.
