Advance Australian Fair
Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea:
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page let every stage
Advance Australia fair,
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia fair.
Beneath our radiant Southern Cross,
We'll toil with hearts and hands,
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands,
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share,
With courage let us all combine
To advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia fair.
Rotary Fellowships should not be the ‘best kept’ secret in Rotary, but they are! There are over 100 different Rotary Fellowships. Rotary Fellowships are groups of Rotarians with similar interests joined together by the first object of Rotary – Acquaintance. Fellowships become your personal connection with Rotary International.
June is Rotary Fellowships month, what do you know about Rotary Fellowships apart from the fact that we list 12 active Rotary Fellowships on page 24 of our District Directory. Did you know that our Victoria Fleet of the IFYR (the International Fellowship of Yachting Rotarians) is active throughout the state and would welcome new members on the next sailing day, each Sunday morning, rain hail and shine, many members of our Cycling Fellowship ride in various locations around our District, our Cricketers have traveled far and wide to enjoy Rotary Fellowships, the Golfers had a great week in Warrnambool in March and our Flyers Fellowships is up in the air, or is it over the moon, about the benefits of Rotary Fellowships.
According to the Rotary Website a “A Rotary Fellowship is a group of Rotarians who unite themselves to pursue a specific worthwhile activity which advances the Object of Rotary, including, but not limited to educational, health, vocational, environmental and recreational activities”. There are over 100 different Fellowships and details are available at It is worth a look. You might find a fellowship of interest to you and if not already established in our District, you could be the catalyst to get it started
Fellowship is the foundation on which Rotary was built, and it is the source of Rotary's strength.
This article is not the time and place to summarise the achievements of 9810 during 2006-07, but on a Fellowship theme I would like thank everyone for the support of my ‘wild idea’ of a 24 Hour meeting and for your attendance at the Shepparton Conference, you made these two events very special for Jill and me.
We are off to the RI World Convention in Salt Lake City and when Rotarians ask where we come from, I will say the best place in the world, District 9810 Victoria, Australia.
The District Governor Changeover is being held at the Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday 30 June 2007, and Jill and I look forward to the opportunity to say thank you the special way in which you have received us at your Rotary Clubs, events and activities, and to express our appreciation for your contribution to the success of our District. Changeover will also give you the opportunity to wish Dick and Sue all the best for the year ahead as “Rotary Shares”
The June issue of the District Governor’s Newsletter will be the last for the 25th Year of District 9810. Sadly Roger Sever who started the year as my Editor was ‘called to higher service’ late March and I didn’t have the chance to say thank to him for his contribution. A big thank-you to Glenda Sherwin-Lane for her wonderful assistance and editorial advice since the December issue. Their dedication has ensured a professional publication. Jill and I thank every Rotarian, and members of our Rotary Family for making 2006-07 special, your consistent support has ensured a successful year, thank you for the opportunity to “Lead the Way”.
Bob and Jill Richards
Thought for the week.
Astronomers estimate that there are at least 100 billion stars in the Milky Way" ('our' galaxy) and "It is estimated that 100 billion galaxies are in principle visible to our modern instruments."

FABULOUS NEWS – $2 MILLION TO ARHRF
I am thrilled to report that donations to the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund (ARHRF) and credited to District 9810, over the life time of the FUND have exceeded or least we will exceed the $2 Million barrier when the Fund receives a very generous Multi Club donation of $5,000.00 raised from catering at the successful Eastlink Walk on 6 May 2007. What a return from selling sausages on a not yet completed Motorway. Of course, the not inconsiderable funds raised by the Ride for Research Dollars to the Shepparton Conference also contributed greatly to ensuring we reached this MILESTONE.
My personal congratulations and thanks to all Rotarians and friends of Rotary, for your contributions over the 21 years since the establishment the ARHRF fund.

A SPECIAL URGENT MESSAGE FROM PRE LIZ GUIVER – RC of DONVALE
“Dear Bob,
At the end of last week I met up with one of our school parents who works for AusAID. She brought with her two guests, Pastor Hudson and Chris, an Orphanage worker who were staying with her for a few weeks. They came to see me in regard to gaining support for an Orphanage in
Ginger, Uganda. The orphanage is in urgent need of skilled and unskilled workers to go to Ginger in December 2007. They also need books, computers, tools, clothing and medical supplies and shipment costs for these items of between $8000 and $10000.
To date, books, computers and clothing has been obtained.
Would it be possible for District 9810 clubs to assist the project by assisting in providing the cost of the container, for providing tools and medical supplies and sending workers in December 2007.
I will be taking this matter to my club's Board on 7 June and am hoping that other clubs may be able to assist, in some way too.
For your information, Pastor Hudson is leaving for Ginger on 13 June and Chris will be leaving on 30 June. They are available to attend club meetings together with Voula Zacharias, the school parent referred to above.
Regards,
Liz Guiver
