Welcome to ROSSTON SCHOOL OF HAIR DESIGN, and thank you for selecting us to assist you in obtaining your desired Barber training. You are now entering into a field experience that will hopefully provide you with the opportunity for a successful future in the Barber industry.

At ROSSTON SCHOOL OF HAIR DESIGN, we offer you the basic training to pass the State Board of Barber Examination. We place emphasis on how to be successful in the marketplace and how to be successful at every operation necessary to create the lifestyle you desire. This means hard work, dedication, and practice on your part. You will practice shop management, business concepts, and the psychology of personal success.

MISSION OF ROSSTON SCHOOL OF HAIR DESIGN

The purpose of the school is to build a foundation of excellence in Barbering and to be the preferred source of education by guaranteeing competent graduates. It is our aim to provide students with the knowledge and technical proficiency that will make them employable upon graduation and receiving their license and gainful employment.

HISTORY OF ROSSTON SCHOOL OF HAIR DESIGN

The school was founded in the early 1950s, by Sherman Trusty as the AmericanBarberCollege. The school was acquired by Rosston Enterprises in 1973 and became the Rosston School of Hair Design. In July 1989, the school was acquired by Olivas, Inc. In the 2010, the school became owned by Padma Corporation.

STATEMENT OF EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

GENERAL PROGRAM SPECIFIC TO BARBERING PROGRAM

At ROSSTON SCHOOL OF HAIR DESIGN, our primary objective is to offer training that prepares the successful student to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the California State Board Exams. In the process, our secondary objective is to maximize the development and personal growth of each student as a total person, to help each student discover his/her potential and hopefully function as Barber/Cosmetology entrepreneurs and teachers of the future.

Another primary objective of the ROSSTON SCHOOL OF HAIR DESIGN, is to bring the student to entry-level employment with a background in all services given in full service barber-styling shops. These include Haircutting and Styling, Shaving, Facials, Shampooing and Scalp Treatments, Hair Coloring, Hair Relaxing, and Waving, as well as knowledge of customer psychology, product knowledge and shop management.

ROSSTON SCHOOL OF HAIR DESIGN believes it is also important that the curriculum be presented in a professional manner, which is creative and exciting, yet disciplined, to prepare for employment and future advancement in the field. The Secondary objectives are to prepare students to take and pass the licensing examinations; expose the student to related industry products; promote professional ethic and standards; and instill a strong sense of self for their future in this rewarding profession/industry.

Our prime vocational objective is to train and produce graduates sufficiently knowledgeable to seek and find employment in the barber industry. The successful student should be able to function effectively in one of the many specialty areas such as: the art of Barbering, Hair Stylist, and Hair Colorist or as a Barber Salon Operator. Normal progression should move him or her to positions such as Barber Salon Manager, Barber Salon Owner, Barber Teacher, Supervisor, Director, or School Owner.

The daily training operation of ROSSTON SCHOOL OF HAIR DESIGN is under the instruction, Supervisor (Mr. Luis Barrientos) who brings of valuable experience within the beauty industry and believes in continuing his education to keep abreast of the vast changes in our industry.

The resultant educational program, the teaching and training at ROSSTON SCHOOL OF HAIR DESIGN represents professionalism and experience. Mr. Barrientos, Director and Instructor presents a challenging teaching and learning environment designed to maximize the student’s preparation and opportunity for success in one of today’s most exciting career fields... the barber industry.

The quality of ROSSTON SCHOOL OF HAIR DESIGN faculty is exhibited daily in the classroom and in the clinic. This core staff is supplemented on a regular basis through the use of guest artists, lecturers, and trainers with proven expertise from virtually all Barbering professions, these exciting activities are carried out in an environment that is characterized by:

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND POLICIES

EDUCATION: The barber college recommends the completion of a High School Diploma or its equivalent prior to enrollment State laws relating to barbering requires the completion of tenth (10th) grade, or equivalent education.

MORALS: Applicants must be of good morals and possess temperate habits. The barber college and its staff does not discriminate in nay of its policies based on race, religion, creed, national origin, financial status, sex, age, handicap, or sexual preference.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

This institution does not offer English as a Second Language (ESL) course. All prospective students that are accepted for enrollment must be proficient in the English language.

If English is not the student's primary language, and the student is unable to understand the terms an conditions of the enrollment agreement, the student shall have the right to obtain aclear explanation of the terms and conditions and all cancellation and refund policies in his or her primary language. If the recruitment leading to enrollment was conducted in a language other than English, the enrollment agreement, disclosures, and statements shall be in that language.

Educational Objective:

The objective for each course offered is to prepare the student for an entry-level position and career in the Barber industry and to acquire the necessary license to practice the art of barbering/hair styling.

Total Clock Hours: 1500

Length of Course: 39 to 50 weeks approximately 10 to 12 months

Schedule: Full-time and part-time

Class Offered: Tuesday through Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

and Monday through Friday 1:00 -9:00 pm

Class Start: Tuesday of each week.

Training Procedures

The training procedure used requires approximately on hour of theory class conducted at the beginning of each school day except Saturday. The remainder of the school day consists of clinical floor practice and/or theory class as assigned by the instructor. Students in this course will complete a minimum of 1300 hours in clinical practice, 80 hours of theory class and at least 120 hours allotted to the practical and/or theoretical phases of barbering/hair styling as assigned by the instructor.Completing 1500 Hours course

COSMETOLOGY CROSS-OVER COURSE

GENERAL PROGRAM SPECIFIC TO CROSS OVER COURSE

Educational Objective:

The objective of this course is to train the student in the art and use of barber implement entry-level position, and to prepare the student for the State examination. Cosmetology Cross over Course is 400 Hour Course.

Text book required is Milady's Standard Professional Barbering fifth edition

Total Clock Hours: 400

Length of Course: 10 weeks

Schedule: Full-time and part-time

Class Offered: Monday through Friday 1:00 -9:00 pm.

Cost: $1,900.00 = [$75.00 Registration +$1,724.00 Tuition + $100 supply fee+ STRF Charge $1.00]

Book and Tools List Provided.

Class Start: Monday orTuesday of each week.

Prerequisite:

a)File an enrollment application and pay the required fee.

b)Present satisfactory proof to the Board of a valid cosmetology certificate or the completion of the
1600-hour cosmetology course in California cosmetology school.

STUDENT PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND

SATISFACTORY PROGRESS STATEMENT STANDARDS

This institution expects its students to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as established by this institution, the student must:

  1. Maintain a cumulative academic average of “C” (70%) or better on all tests, work projects (operations) and other required course work.
  1. Maintain a cumulative average attendance level of at least two-thirds (2/3) of the scheduled hours indicated on their enrollment contract. For example, a student scheduled to complete 30 hours per week would have to maintain an average weekly attendance of at least 20 hours per week (2/3 x 30 = 20).

Regardless of the average level of attendance, students who have more than three consecutive weeks of absences (21 days) will be dismissed. This standard shall apply to all students except those on an approved Leave-of-Absence (see LOA policy). In addition to attendance standards relating to Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), students are also required to adhere to certain other general institutional policies relating to attendance and tardiness. These policies (Rules and Regulations of our school) are given to all students during orientation.

  1. Complete the course within one and one-half (1/2) times the length of the course as defined in the enrollment agreement. For example, if the student has contracted to complete the course within 40 weeks, he or she must complete within 60 weeks.
DEFINITION OF CLOCK HOURS

The BarberCollege defines all students maintaining an average of 120 hours on a full-time schedule (60 hours for part-time students) per four- (4) week period, and on overall grade average of “C” as making satisfactory progress. A clock hour is defined as sixty (60) minutes of time in the training setting, participating in the training program.

PROBATION

If a student fails to maintain an overall average of “C”, consultation with the school official will be scheduled. At the time, the student will be placed on four- (4) week probation. At the time of the probationary period, if the student has not satisfied the specified requirements, the student will be suspended or terminated from school.

MAXIMUM TIME FRAME

Students attending on a full-time basis must complete the training contract within twelve months from the date of the enrollment contract. Students enrolling on a part time basis must complete the training within twenty-four months from the date of the enrollment contract.

APPEALS

Students who wish to appeal the determination that they are not maintaining satisfactory progress must submit a letter to the school administration. The letter should describe any circumstances the student feels deserves further consideration. A decision relating to the appeal will be made and the student notified accordingly.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE

Occasionally, students may experience extended personal, medical or other problems, which make it difficult to attend class. This institution may allow a student under such circumstances to take a Leave of Absence (LOA) from the program up to 60 days. LOA must be requested in writing by the student and must be approved by the school Director. A LOA request form must be filled out and the date of leave and return must be stated on the form prior to the Director approving the LOA. Do not request Leave of Absence unless you absolutely need one. Under no circumstances can the school grant more than a single (1) LOA within a 12-month period. Students on LOA’S will not be assessed any additional charges of tuition. Students returning from an authorized LOA will retain all credit for clock hours and work projects completed and will be returned to the academic progress status they held prior to the start of the leave of absence. Students who fail to return from a LOA, will be considered dismissed as of the last class day of attendance prior to start of the leave and the refund calculation will be performed and all refunds due will be issued to the student or appropriate agencies and paid within 30 days.
