Root of the week: VOC:

During speeches for class president last year one candidate advocated for a shorter class day. He claimed that if the school shortened class periods by five minutes, got rid of tutorial, and shortened passing periods, the school day could be cut down by one hour! During the speech, one vociferous student yelled out obnoxiously, “That will never happen! They would never agree to it!”

The candidate unequivocally answered, “I have already discussed it with administration, and they agreed to the shortened school day!” He won by a landslide, and students impatiently awaited their new schedules.

Eventually it was discovered that the candidate equivocated, or bent the truth. He never discussed his idea with administrators. Therefore, the shortened school day would never become a reality. Students were outraged, and so were school administrators. Students complained, and soon administrators were forced to revoke the candidate’s presidency.
