AGE GROUP ……………………………….

‘’ NEW YOUTH / MINI MEMBERSHIP ‘’

Welcome to Romford and Gidea Park Rugby Club. I hope that you will enjoy your stay with the Club. We cater for all age groups from under sevens through to seniors.

The club was founded in 1929 and since that time we have gone from strength to strength. We now have approximately 450 children, of both sexes, registered with the RFU. This is a quite remarkable number introduced to rugby through Romford and Gidea Park RFC. It is something we are very proud of and we continue to work with local schools and youth organisations to ensure the reputation of Romford grows stronger and stronger.

The welfare and safety of children is of paramount importance to us and we have a Child Protection Policy at the club a copy of which is available to all members. All our coaching staff are CRB approved have RFU coaching credentials and have completed a Child Protection Course. We continue to run courses throughout the year and would welcome anyone who would like to get involved in coaching or just helping out with the club, to come and join us. In order for us to meet our responsibilities in this area you are required to complete a number of forms which you will find toward the end of this pack. These have been instigated by the RFU and we must comply with them.

We also have ‘Codes of Practice’ and ‘Codes of Conduct’ for all Players, Parents, Supporters and Coaches, which must be adhered to at all times. Copies of these can be found at the end of this pack. Notwithstanding that please note

It is a condition of entry into the club that all children under the age of 18 must be supervised at all times by a parent or guardian. No liability is accepted for unsupervised children. At all times the responsibility for supervision of the child remains with the parent or guardian including but not limited to training sessions and games. Any unsupervised child will be removed from the club premises. Unsupervised and/or inappropriate use of the apparatus or equipment can lead to serious injury. No one including but not limited to children is permitted to use any equipment or apparatus without the consent of the Team Manager or the Coach and at all times only under the direction of the Coach or Team Manager. No liability is accepted for use of apparatus or equipment outside the terms of this notice.

Due to the success of this club we are quickly outgrowing our facilities. We aim to improve these facilities over the next few years, which without your support, would not be possible. We are now a very large family based club and run several events throughout the year, including trips to Twickenham and other well known grounds.

There have been many changes and improvements over the last few years including a new Club House and to help finance these we have introduced a new method of payment. It costs approximately £40,000 a year, before we even open the gates of the club, for electricity, gas, rates etc. We have now introduced a direct debit system for ALL members of the Club. This is for 12 months of the year, but will also mean that the club will be open 12 months of the year and the facilities will be available throughout the year. This also means that you will no longer pay ‘SUBS’ each week and it will also alleviate the stress of someone having to go round collecting them from parents.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a committee Member or Mini/Youth Chairman, who will always be happy to assist with any queries.

On behalf of the Committee, Coaches and Team Managers I would like to thank you for your continued support, as without this the success of this club would not be possible.

Let’s hope the Club has another enjoyable and successful season.

Dai Davies,

President.

Codes of practice

You have entered the game of rugby and as such the club is sure that you will want to support it. Indeed the club will encourage you to become involved in the game. However, it must never be forgotten that the game of rugby is for the enjoyment of the players. To that end the club has a “Code of Practice” for

Players

ü  Rugby is a team game, be a member of the whole team.

ü  Do not bully any of your team mates.

ü  If you see any bullying by your team mates or any other person report it to your coach, he knows how to deal with it.

ü  Learn to play the game safely

ü  Learn the laws of the game and always play within the laws.

ü  Respect the coaches, the referees, your opponents, your team mates and any spectators.

Carers And Helpers

ü  All carers/helpers should be aware of the child protection policy and they should read it and understand it.

ü  All carers/helpers should not accept bad practice or unlawful acts by any person: Don’t Ignore It - Report It.

Parents And Supporters

ü  Respect all players, coaches and officials

ü  Do not swear at any person present, during training or games

ü  Do not give negative criticism, encourage, the game will improve with encouragement. It will not with criticism.

ü  As a parent you should be aware that the club has a child protection policy, it is available for you to read. Should you become aware of any bad practices towards players, Don’t Ignore It - Report It.

ü  Do not allow your child to play on an injury.

ü  Assist your child to learn the laws of the game and encourage them to play within the laws of the game.

ü  Ensure that your child has adequate clothing and equipment to play the game safely.

THE GOOD PARENT’S GUIDE

Parents are Encouraged To:

ü  Be familiar with the coaching and training programme in order that you can ensure that your child is fully involved and the coaches are aware of their availability

ü  Be familiar with the teaching and coaching methods used by observing the sessions in which your child participates

ü  Be aware that the club has a duty of care and therefore, where appropriate, assist coaches with the supervision of the young players, particularly where numbers are large and there is a need to transport youngsters to away games

ü  Be involved with the club activities and share your expertise

ü  Share concerns, if you have them, with club officials

ü  Be familiar with the Good Coach’s Code. In particular:

Coaches should recognise the importance of fun and enjoyment when coaching young players

Coaches should keep winning and losing in perspective, encouraging young players to behave with dignity in all circumstances

ü  It is important that parents support coaches in instilling these virtues

Parents Should:

ü  Remember that young people play rugby for their own enjoyment not that of their parents

ü  Encourage young people to play – do not force them

ü  Focus on the young players’ efforts, rather than winning or losing

ü  Be realistic about the young players’ abilities, do not push them towards a level that they are not capable of achieving

ü  Provide positive verbal feedback both in training and during the game. Remember that persistent, negative messages will adversely affect the players’ and referee’s performance and attitude.

ü  Always support the rugby club in their efforts to eradicate loud, coarse and abusive behaviour from the game

ü  Remember young people learn much by example

ü  Always show appreciation of good play by all young players both from your own club and the opposition

Respect decisions made by the match officials and encourage the young players to do likewise

THE GOOD PLAYER’S CODE

Players are Encouraged To -

ü  Recognise and appreciate the efforts made by coaches, parents, match officials and administrators in providing the opportunity for you to play the game and enjoy the rugby environment

ü

ü  Understand the values of loyalty and commitment to adults and team-mates

ü

ü  Recognise that every young player has a right to expect their involvement in rugby to b safe and free from all types of abuse

ü

ü  Understand that if an individual or group of young players feel they are not being treated in a manner that is acceptable, then you have a right to tell an adult either at the rugby club or outside of the game

Players Should:

ü  Play because you want to do so, not to please coaches or parents

ü  Remember that skill development, fun and enjoyment are the most important parts of the game

ü  Be attentive at all training and coaching sessions

ü  Work equally hard for yourself and your team – both will then benefit

ü  Recognise good play by all players on your team and by your opponents

ü  Be a sportsman – win or lose

ü  Play to the Laws of the Game and accept, without question all referees’ decisions

ü  Control your emotions. Verbal or physical abuse of team-mates, opponents or match officials is not acceptable.

ü  Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take advantage of any player.

THE GOOD SPECTATOR’S CODE

Spectators are Encouraged To:

ü Act as positive role models to all young players

ü Be familiar with, and abide by, the RFU Child Protection Guidance in relation to verbal and emotional abuse

ü Respect the rugby club with regard to spectator behaviour

Spectators Should:

ü Remember children play sport for their enjoyment not yours

ü Acknowledge good individual and team performance from all youngsters irrespective of the team for whom they play

ü Respect match officials’ decisions. Remember – they are volunteers providing an opportunity for youngsters to play rugby

ü Never verbally abuse young players, match officials, fellow spectators or coaches. Such behaviour can create a negative environment for young players and their behaviour will often reflect this

ü Acknowledge effort and good performance rather than the ‘win at all costs’ ethic

ü Verbally encourage all youngsters in a positive way. If you do want to shout make sure it is ‘for’, not ‘at’ the players

Encourage all youngsters irrespective of their ability; never ridicule any individual player,

Regardless of the team for whom they play for.

SUBSCRIPTIONS & FEES

Romford & Gidea Park RFC is an all inclusive club whose main goal is to bring the benefits of the game of Rugby Football Union to its wider local community.

We ask all our members to make a fair and equitable contribution to the general upkeep of the club and for match day expenses. The rates below are recommendations; you can pay more if you wish.

We have always made provision for the unemployed & students by offering them half rates. If, in this current financial climate, any family or individual are having further difficulties then arrangements can be made at the discretion of the committee. These arrangements will remain private between both parties. Financial constraints are not a barrier to playing rugby. We believe the club is like a family who tries to look after its members in bad times. This can be repaid either on the field or by helping the club in better times.

Gift Aid: As Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) we ask all members to fill in a Gift Aid Declaration Form (attached). This is a one-time form, which enables the club to reclaim from the Inland Revenue, the tax you may have paid on any donations you have made to the club (currently 28p for each £1 you give – you must be a tax payer).

Standing Orders: The Club recommends that subscriptions are paid by Standing Order. This has the benefit of spreading payments over a longer period for the members, providing a regular income for the club, and an aid to financial planning. The control of the S/O (amount and frequency) remains with the member. The club has no influence with their bank.

Parents: The club asks that at least one parent of a Youth/Mini Player become club member ( Social ). This would show additional support to the club with the added benefit of being able of hire club facilities at preferable rates, which Under 18s can not do.
