Task
- Compose a new ending to William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet
- Perform the new ending
Directions
- The new ending should include main characters (each person in the group must have a role).
- The script must be written in Shakespearean language.
- All character traits must remain the same.
- Events written prior to and leading up to the beginning of the new ending cannot be changed.
- Be sure that all activities written in the script are able to be performed.
- The script should not leave any unanswered questions.
Script Format
- Cover Page (Includes Title, Key, Indication of Where New Ending Begins, and Character List (who is playing what role)
- The page number, Act, Scene, and Line number of where your new ending begins must be placed on the cover.
- Completed Script in Shakespearean language (Minimum of 3 Pages) (Must include a prologue, monologue, soliloquy, and an aside. These should be highlighted in different colors and a key should be placed on the cover.)
- The script should be written using Times New Roman. 12 pt. font, double spaced, black ink
- All character names should be typed in bold (ex: Juliet: Is thy love true?)
- Stage directions should be included and italicized (ex: Romeo: (sword in hand) Thy love is pure.)
- Line numbers should be placed every 5 lines just like in the original text.
Performance
- Each group will have ten minutes to perform their script in front of the class.
- Appropriate attire should be worn.
- Scenery/Props should be used.
- Group members are allowed to read from a script, but are encouraged to practice their performance.
- Each script should be performed, not just read. This includes following stage directions, actions, and entering/exiting the stage.
- Each member of the group and the teacher should be given a copy of the script.
